,What a great song, still so powerful with such a spiritual meaning, even today. I always stop to listen & remember my youth, when this song was on WABC radio!
What a great opening line to a great song from a fabulous era. I'm not wild about getting older, but I'm glad I was there when all this was first happening.
Always in my life at that time; re-reading the lyrics is profound; truly love is THE key to all;it starts with you;radiates out, ripple effect.I do see it now as well, u can find those who believe the way you do and it is changing, despite the media, negative images; keep your love in your heart and always send that out to others.First verse opened with the words that we often forgetLove is but a song we sing And fear's the way we dieYou can make the mountains ring Or make the Angels cry eternal
Saw JCY as the headline act, along with Little Feat, in '75. Did this song among others, but in reality, LF was the best part of the evening. Feat just made everybody so high and rockin, that JCY was an afterthought. Bad pairing, but a great show.
In the mid-sixties,it was a lovin' thing! What happened was the goverment stepped in,and things turned for the worse! This song strongly reflects the era in which vietnam, hate, war and destruction became a way of life,Its sad!But to the person whom saidthis should be our national anthemis so right!!!Peace to everyone!

Those who have the power and the money intentionally create hatred, mistrust and violence between us, the common people. Why? To keep it. How? TV and radio. Notice how angry Bill O Reilly is paid to act? Notice how irritated and frustrated Rush Is paid $400 to act? Notice the searing hate of Ann Coulter, Michael Savage? Notice the dismissive contempt of Sean Hannity, Michael Medved? They are paid actors leading you to your destruction.
Design1694: Thank you for the F&L reference. Oh man, somehow I completely forgot that they made a movie of the Rum Diary. I gotta see it. Anyway, great song, and it most certainly should be the new national anthem. Pigs will sooner fly, however.
I remember at one point, within the counter culture movement, there was a call to have this become the new national anthem. I thought it was a great idea.
We had all the momentum; we were riding the crest of a high and beautiful wave. So now, less than five years later, you can go up on a steep hill in Las Vegas and look West, and with the right kind of eyes you can almost see the high-water mark —that place where the wave finally broke and rolled back.-Hunter S. Thompson
NEVER GET TIRED OF THIS SONG! This arrangement is "classic!"
I love the way the lead singer (Jesse Colin Young?) says, "You hold the key to love and fear, all in your trembling "HANE." His pronunciatio n always makes me grin; that country/rock 'twang.'
The message of the song, however, is just silly, hippie, well-intentioned nonsense. On this earth, we will never love our fellow man the way this songs preaches. It isn't in our nature to do so. Only Jesus' love can accomplish that.

One of the ABSOLUTE BEST SONGS ever to come out of the '60s!!!
As a teenager, I was always a fan of Jesse Colin Young. And of course this song was a beloved classic of all. It was not until recently that I even knew that JCY was the Yardbirds.

put your sandals on, some beads around your neck...flowers in your hair...sway to the music...
"WE ARE BUT A MOMENTS SUNLIGHT..." OR JUST A SHADOW THAT CHILLS THE ONES WE PASS OVER. tHIS SONG IS SUCH A SIMPLE IDEA, BUT IF WE SIMPLY TRY TO LOVE ONE ANOTHER THERE WOULD BE SO MUCH MORE LOVE THAT IT MIGHT REALLY MAKE ALL LIVES BETTER.
I LOVED THE YOUNGBLOODS AND THEY STILL SOUND RELAVENT AND MOVING.
