White Heart

The Christian rock band Whiteheart was formed in 1982 by singer Steve Green, guitarist Dann Huff, bassist Gary Lunn, keyboardists Mark Gersmehl and Billy Smiley, and drummer David Huff, most of the members alumni of Bill Gaither's group. After debuting with a self-titled effort issued on the Home Sweet Home label, Green exited the line-up, and was replaced by vocalist Scott Douglas for 1984's Vital Signs; another roster swap exchanging Dann Huff for guitarist Gordon Kennedy again shook up the Whiteheart sound just prior to 1985's Hotline. The remaining Huff brother, David, split soon after its release, as did Douglas; new vocalist Rick Florian and drummer Chris McHugh were installed in time for 1986's Don't Wait for the Movie, the last Whiteheart record to feature Gary Lunn.

With the addition of new bassist Tommy Sims for 1987's Emergency Broadcast, only Gersmehl and Smiley remained from the group's original line-up; somewhat remarkably, the release of 1989's Freedom heralded no roster changes, but in the months to follow Kennedy, Sims and McHugh all left the fold to be replaced by guitarist Brian Wooten, bassist Anthony Sallee and drummer Mark Nemer for 1990's Powerhouse. Nemer quit soon after, and although McHugh returned to record the majority of 1992's Tales of Wonder, the drummer's seat was eventually filled by Jon Knox. The next Whiteheart LP, 1993's Highlands, featured the same line-up, but Sallee departed prior to 1995's Inside, cut with new bassist John Thorn. By 1997's Redemption, Whiteheart offically consisted of Gersmehl, Smiley and Florian, rounded out by studio players. ~ Jason Ankeny, Rovi

Flame Passes On : I LOVE THIS SONG
Great band. Saw them at least twice back in the day. Love Ric's voice. A metaphor for Protestantis m though - members quitting, splitting, numerous off-shoots.
love whiteheart, IMHO one of the best christian rock bands ever....
Love this song.

Over Me and The river will flow are two of my favorite songs. My favorite White Heart song however is Montanan Sky. Absolutely beautiful.
David huff was the drummer of whiteheart. But dann huff isn't his brother

The David Huff of David and the Giants isn't theone that was in White Heart. David Huff of David and the Giants has 2 brothers named Rayburn and Clayburn.
The Huff brothers David and Dann Huff is the ones in David and the Giants which is a awesome group as well.
Sure hope the 2014 reunion tour stops near me. I have seen them in concert more than any band. There is also supposed to be a new disc along with the tour.
I saw WhiteHeart live in concert at NewSound '87 and met them too: Way-cool people!
They were ok, still think Barron cross- blood good- deliverance had it going on!!!

White Heart...BEST Christian band...ever!
I think this is there best album I never get tired of it great music another under rated Christian band!!!!
Freedom is a great album. However, their first album, simply called Whiteheart, was one heck of a product. Steve Green on lead vocals, Dann Huff lead guitar (he's since produced about half the country artists in Nashville), Mark Geshmal and Billy Smiley. What an assembled piece of talent. This combination was short lived, but phenomenally talented.
This is my 3rd favorite song that thay do my first is desert rose :)
White Heart's Freedom album is, in my opinion, not only their best album, but one of the best album's in all of Christian rock from the '80s and '90s. And Invitation sits on top of it all, with Let the Kingdom Come as a very close second.

The River will Flow. this song always hits home with me. Love it!!!
I was lucky enough to work with these guys several times and they are vastly overlooked as far as their music goes. I was able to get them added to the play lists of mainstream rock radio stations in Oregon where they stood up very well. Got a lot of requests for them once they started playing them. I compare them to YES in terms of musical stylings. I absolutely LOVE their rendition of the Little Drummer Boy.

I still have my Highlands tour shirt with autographs still intact. That was my favorite album. They were very good for christian rock and I agree with timd438 they will probably continue to be unrecognized for their quality of work.
Sounds very GOOD!!!
LOVE White Heart, I wish they would still sing!

You call this a White Heart bio?! I've been listening to them from the beginning, and there is much more to this band than personnel changes over the years. Their contribution to quality Christian rock endures and will probably continue to go overlooked.

I caught them when they released We Are His Hands and I picked up their 'Hotline' album after that. Great rock tunes, but albeit a decidedly 80's sound. That's why I never really got into them all that much. Great band for the time, though. Around that time, I took a decided liking for Degarmo & Key due to their clearer message and Dana Key's shining licks and Eddie D's great keyboard fills.
Nice throwback to some early work of Christian Rock/Alterna t i v e

Highlands is my all time favorite. "Once and for All" is awesome!!
Their "Little Drummer Boy" on Souvenirs is my favorite version of the song....
I absolutely love everything that they have done. But I'm still totally addicted to the Tales of Wonder album.
Powerhouse, please!

Pandora--nee d more Whiteheart-- P u t "Don't Wait For the Movie" out there. Great Stuff!

If you like Freedom, you really need to check out Highlands. Little bit different sound but still very very good. Nothing But The Best, The Flame Passes On, and Excuse Me Forgive Me are some amazing songs.
"Freedom" is the best album ever.
80s and up to mid 90s will still be the best Christian Rock in the history of the industry
