Italian Baroque composer Domenico Scarlatti (1685-1757) is remembered for some 555 keyboard sonatas, primarily written while he served as court composer in Portugal and Spain. He also wrote operas and other vocal music, following in the footsteps of his father Alessandro Scarlatti, but the keyboard music stands out above the rest of his oeuvre. The one-movement sonatas are recognized as cornerstones of the keyboard repertoire, bridging the high Baroque and the galant styles. ~ Patsy Morita, Rovi
