Vinnie Moore

Vinnie Moore is one of the most influencial and important guitarists to emerge out of the virtuoso boom in the mid to late eighties. Boasting six studio albums as of 2001, he is one of the most recognizable artists on the Shrapnel record label.

Beginning his career at the tender age of 12, Moore played clubs and bars until Shrapnel big wig Mike Varney discovered him through a magazine article. His connection with Varney led to a Pepsi commercial in 1985, which gave him enough recognition to record his first solo album, Minds Eye. His debut led to several awards from guitar magazines and sold over 100,000 copies, bringing him directly into the spotlight of the guitar world.

The virtuoso craze of the late eighties led to more well received releases on Shrapnel, and soon he began to perform with other bands in the hard rock scene. He joined Alice Cooper's band for a tour and the Hey Stoopid album, and released two very popular instructional videos on playing guitar.

He secured a tour with Rush for his solo material, then turned around and had a guitar clinic tour that spanned several continents. His dedication to teaching his craft has brought him much praise in musician's circles. Although the nineties saw a decline in the popularity of solo guitar music, Moore survived the downward trend due to his popular guitar clinics and quality guitar playing.

Standing tall with fellow guitar heroes Al DiMeola and Joe Satriani, Vinnie Moore has enjoyed a successful working relationship with Shrapnel records that has continued past the nineties into the next century. Despite never cracking the mainstream, Moore still has enjoyed a long and creatively satisfying career in the world of instrumental guitar. ~ Bradley Torreano, Rovi

great player....so m e h o w eerie bio like from some ..fan lol
Gotta love Vinnie Moore.
I found Vinnie Moore about a month ago and have downloaded everything I can find that was done by this ridiculously talented shredder. He is fast, a great song writer, precise and prolific to boot!!!! Tony MacAlpine, Matthew Mills, Vitalij Kuprij, Yngwie Malmsteen, Andy Moore and, of course, Joe Satriani are all of the same ilk. All so, so talented and one cannot reach the pinnacle of virtuosity by just practicing.. . . t h i s is some sort of divine intervention at aplay!!!!

Defying Gravity is by far one of the best displays of his techniques. Saw him in Puerto Rico's Hard Rock Cafe in his prime. A cool guy overall and tremendously skilled. Check out his cover of While my Guitar Gently Weeps (a George Harrison classic) and Air on the G String (J.S. Bach)

Love Vinnie Moore! Guy has serious chops but also composes great music! Wish I could pick as cleanly as this guy!
Vinnie Moore has kicked serious A** for several years...one of my all time favorites... J A M UP!!

Vinnie has a 2009 disc - "To the Core" which is the first I've purchased and is great. Agree with many other comments that his style is more that he doesn't have one particular style. Love Satch, Vai, et al but they do tend to have a "sound" that they seem to center around. I've found Vinnie is all over the map - and in a good way. As for recommended discs? So far I'd say start with the first one you find, then keep buying from there!
This guy is really good. He reminds me of a less European Malmsteen, only I think he goes more for music that sounds good instead of just throwing his virtuosity in your face. Don't get me wrong, Malmsteen has some good sounding stuff, too, but Vinnie Moore just has a lot of really interesting, cool music.

I don't know what to say. i didn't think one human could be this awesome. This is nothing short of epic beast. Makes me want to pick up a guitar right now!
If you like Vinnie check out Steve Vai if you haven't already.

He shreds, and is a totally down to earth guy. I seen him on Time Oddessey tour, and again the past tour with UFO - which afterwards I got to talk with him for a few minutes. Great guy and the master of his craft!

Good God Almighty, that is some killer stuff!
Soaring and searing!
defying gravity=very cool
the maze is crazy!!!!
Mind`s eye is his first solo effort, and If I say so it is his best. Viscious Rumors is another early Vinnie Moore masterpiece even though it is not a solo instumental record, his solos are blistering and yet melodic and edgy.
does anyone have any vinnie moore albums to recommend?
paranoid420_
Impressive! Life is a Daydream...
He's so much more creative than other "shredders". It's refreshing to hear a guitar song with more than a simple flurry of arpeggios.

The review says that VM has created six albums since 2001, and yet "The Shrapnel Years" is the only album played. What's up with that? Oh well. The dude still rocks.
Vinnie is the MAN!!
Ahhhh...The Maze is such an amazing song! The best song I've ever heard...ever y t h i n g was great, from the fluid-like chord changes to the consistently amazing guitar part and killer bass and keyboard solo. Melodic and amazing. Greatest song I've ever heard. Vinnie Moore never fails to satisfy me.
Great stuff with and without the great UFO

Man....this stuff makes yearn to play my guitar, lol. Vinnie makes it sound so easy to play.
Very talented. He seems much more creative than Malmsteen. I also enjoy the fact that there's more of a structure to his songs than just intricacy for intricacy's sake. He incorporates a lot of styles into what I've heard from him. The Maze is a masterpiece of serious fretwork!
Great sound. Love my Guitars Sing station...fr o m Buckethead to Satriani, Vai, Johnson. Can't live without great music. Thanks Pandora.
Wow, yes, these guitar licks make me giddy at work!
