Musically the two version are very similar, have to say this is the first time hearing Vertical Horizons take on it, unless I heard it before in the background and thought it was Gary then.
Jan, I know you will read this. I hope you are doing fine. I can t tell you how much I am sorry for all the things we went through since we meet. We can move on. It will take time no matter what is going on in our lives. What is done is done. Take care and God Bless. Gene
The problem I have with the Gary Allan cover is that it sounds almost exactly like the original. I would've liked it better if he put a more personal touch on it.
Sums up my past relationship. I did put it in a letter, but I never sent it...it was more for me than him. It was an amazing time with him, but he doesnt want me back. He never truly wanted me for much anyway.
It sounds like pstanley57 isn't a musician. Covers aren't just about what the song means. It's also about respecting another musician. I mean, orchestras have been covering Mozart for years, but I don't see anyone asking them to stop. In anycase, often there are times when someone else has said it better, so why not use it?

I know the reason Gary Allan covered this song, and I stand by my opinion. I don't like it when someone uses other people's words to convey his emotions. It cheapens both the words and the emotion. It's like one of those cheesy greeting cards dripping with sappy sayings. If you mean it, you should write it yourself. Even if less artfully done, it will be much more sincere.
I prefer Gary Allan's version cause I heard it first and I'm use to hearing, but I like this one too. Great song. If you knew the reason as to why Gary covered this song you will be very touched.
vertical horizon did it first in 98-99. its on the ablum aboave and it says 99. gary allen did it later, al thought they are both good, i was just clearing this up

Boo the Gary Allen version. Just heard it for the first time. The only thing worse than a country singer doing a cover a rock song is when a rock singer does a cover of a country song.
