saw them play LIVE @ The Antenna Club in Memphis..they painted the name of the band on the back wall of the stage before they played the first note..great show!
gay? who cares. punk is a complete open forum. you can be as loud, obscene and abrasive as you want. or not. that's all it is. punk is freedom for so many, gay, straight, into a bit of everything or a die hard fan. that's all punk is and that's how it survives. enjoy what you like but don't get pissed because others don't
Punk has been and is a catch-all for those who don't like or fit in with the top 40 popular crowd crap. Surely there are some homosexuals but who cares.
I lived it - I woun't say it had ties to queer. It was the concept of freaking the common folk out. None of my friends we gay punk types. Just go listen to the likes of SD, DOA out of Vancouver, Minor Threat and learn before you drunk type. Really back then that was more Thompson Twins, Duran, crap. who had that following.
Check out the New York Dolls - punk and taking it up the poop shoot was cool - hell so was it with heavy metal Judas Priest likes using a microphone with hair on it - Queen enjoyed riding a bike with no seat - gay bars have more people in it - turn the stools upside down and you get 4 to a seat - and parking is always in the rear -
they do look gay, but at least when i look at them i know i'm not looking at a band that's going to write a theme album about a little girl fighting robots.
honestly i've never really liked UK punk, ive always found the tonality rather bland, and the music very apethetic. I still have respect for bands like ramones and S.P. but its just kinda of hard to listen to music where voices are so uno-toned
