I should also take jeff56670 advice. It is a solid tune by a great band. Edge shines again and I do get a great feeling of being out in the nature of the world. Nice bass line. Of course, I think all of the tunes on JT are just stellar and all have something to say in a time when not much was being said in music.
Another great song from The Joshua Tree. I disagree with rabbitbunny. The whole JT album is a review of America warts and all and how it still holds her fascination with the world and people coming to her. I stand with the sons of Cain is not an attack but rather a view of one's humanity versus one's faith. mkkylch has a good take on this line too. I so do not by the Christians are full of judgement, vitriol, and hate. I find quite the opposite. I see people of faith reaching out.

Hey Rabbit Boy - Why are you hating on Christians? Did they pick on you as a child? This is a forum for music not religion or politics. Dont like the song PUSH NEXT and get on with your day. Life is way too short to HATE.
Don't be fooled by the title! Bono wrote In God's Country as a total rejection and indictment against Fundamentalist Christianity. These so-called Christians make me sick and are so full of judgment, vitriol and hate. Even God makes mistakes sometimes-He's Not Perfect! U2 Rock!
The first time I made it out to Utah...around Moab....driving through the desert...this song was playing. It was perfect. Later....as I made it to Joshua Tree, CA...I had to put this on again...U2 captured the spirit of the desert in this song...
Great song that never became a hit single, but is one of U2's best. The music is beautiful. The lyrics are poetry that have an hypnotic effect. The wonderful lyric, "I stand with the sons of Cain" I take to mean that the narrator loves humanity in spite of our imperfections and fallibility. Meshes perfectly with the humanitarianism U2 has always been known for.
