Heavy and melodic, True Widow began in 2007 when singer and guitarist Dan Phillips (formerly of Slowride) returned to Dallas, Texas after taking a break from music. Recruiting singer/bassist Nicole Estill and drummer Timothy Starks, the band took shape quickly, developing a sound that took its cues in equal parts from the world of drone, post-rock, and shoegaze, blending rumbling guitars, sprawling songs, and drifting, reverb-soaked vocals. The band released their self-titled debut in 2008, and two years later signed on with Kemado (home of fellow Texans the Sword). In 2011, the band followed up with the release of their epically titled sophomore effort, As High as the Highest Heavens and from the Center to the Circumference of the Earth. ~ Gregory Heaney, Rovi
