Good to see the positive comments on theses guys. Triumvirat were an excellent progressive band, should have gotten more airplay in the seventies. Spartacus and Illusions are both excellent.
Too bad the Label Executives pushed them in the wrong direction (towards Pop and away from ProgRock) ... their early stuff had inspired writing and playing ...
pmfith...all bands are sellouts!! What is wrong with them being successful? Anyone else that is reading this: We all SELLOUT to someone or something. Wake up SHEEP!
Triumvirat is my favorite band from the 70's. I don't see them as a clone of ELP because the music was totally different in writing. Spartacus was their best work, IMHO, then Illusions. Not on those two albums were other jewels... LOVE the songs Old Loves Die Hard and the GREAT ballad, For You.
I don't really care if they're derivative of ELP - they still wrote decent stuff... There biggest mistake was following ELP off the 'Love Beach' cliff with 'Ala Carte'... Same mistake all prog bands made in the late 70's - listening to their idiot managers and selling out...which alienated their loyal fans and didn't bring in a standard audience either...
Pompeii was my favorite from these guys. I've always felt they were a clone band, but bravo, great tunes and some of their later albums had more finesse than ELP

Great forward thinking Band! Excellent Keyboards by Jurgen Fritz. I started listening to this band in 1975 when I played them to a show and tell class in 5th grade. They were all surprised!
This band has and will give me many hours of listening pleasure. I can't count the amount of times I have listened to Spartucus and Illusions. Definitely underrated band.
They are similar to ELP but Triumvirat was able to put better melodies together. ELP mostly was art rock for art rock sake most of the time.

Their song "A Cold Old Worried Lady" helped me through a difficult time growing up. Its about a man who let his inner fears, made more intense by the warnings of the old lady, Drive him to suicide. After he killed himself he realized his only problem was listening to those inner fears. He regretted killing himself
This comment is'nt about Triumvirat, it's about the year shown "Illusions On A Double Dimple" was originally released. It was back in 1974

Another good album is Old Loves Die hard featuring Barry Palmer on vocals. I believe this was the first album where they had a singer while the three musicians just focused on playing the their instruments.
If you like ELP,This band is for you. Illusions on a double dimple is a GREAT album. Should read German 70's art rock band a la Emerson Lake and Palmer. Also ,some info on the band would be nice!
Triumvirat is still one my favorite bands. I used to wear out their tapes(including a few 8 tracks) in my car as I took weekend long roadtrips to clear my head and avoid the world. I can still relax by just putting Spartacus on and letting the music soothe my inner demons.
