Toy Matinee

I love toy matinee, they're awesome
This man was a blessing. Some creepy interesting facts from an over obsessed fan he was born-died 1966-1996. Triple sixes right side up and upside down. Just underlies the darkness that consumed him.
Highly recommend both "nuts" and "Bolts" released a couple years back. As good as any of the masterpieces he released while with us.
i love every single song on this album. something about this music just connects with my soul.
I usually don't like Pop too much. But I liked his edgy pop. Good artist. I liked his versions of Gabriel's Genesis songs.

I agree with all of the comments below. He was a genius and I NEVER get tired of his music. Please check out all of his work!

the world was was a better place for having him one of the most talented minds in music well known in the industry but a relative unknown too the masses sorry about there luck i feel blessed to not be one of them
I know people say this a lot, and I'm not saying this because he's gone, but Kevin Gilbert really was ahead of his time. As a kid in high school when I discovered him, it felt like I finally had a piece of the world that made me feel ahead of the curve. Everything he touched seemed to turn to gold.
Totally agreed as far as Kevin Gilbert's The Shaming Of The True. That music put me through extreme feelings for months. Excellent, Excellent, Excellent.

i love all these comments about kevin. he was so talented, a shame he is gone. thank you all for the comments.

Love this CD. Got it as a cutout at Coconuts- Atlanta- when it first was released. STill listen to it faithfully.
Have bought and worn out this album three times now. We actually played this on WLAV in Grand Rapids thanks to Aris Hampers when it first came out. It's wonderful end to end with no bad tracks. Jenny Ledge and Remember my Name still make me stand up.
It's a shame that Kevin's work will largely go unnoticed. He is undoubtedly one of the most talented and creative songwriters of the last few decades. He will be greatly missed, but unfortunatel y only by the few lucky souls who have experienced his music. If you haven't heard it, The Taming of the True is PURE GENIUS.

I just loved this song when it first came out. I thought it was Steely Dan, and kept asking the record stores if they had it. Only later did i discover the full genius of K.G. and Mark Bonilla. R.I.P. K.G.
Kevin Gilbert was a beautiful sensitive talented artist. I highly recomment
his "Thud" album. A masterpiece!
One on the most perfect musical efforts ever. I became hooked on this since I first heard Last Plane Out in 1990. Everyone I turn onto this CD falls in love with it.

Patrick Leonard later released Third Matinee's Meanwhile with ex-Mr. Mister lead Richard Page after Kevin's untimely death. A mellower release that's not that bad, but can't really compare to Toy Matinee.

God only knows where Kevin's genius would have taken us had he lived longer. Heartbreakin g shame.

There are several other KG releases, and I HIGHLY recommend them all...
Thud
The Kaviar Sessions / Kaviar
Shaming of the True / Kevin Gilbert
Live at the Troubadour / Toy Matinee (also a limited edition DVD, released this week)

I have a copy of the Live at the Roxy CD that was never released. Yup it's Sheryl Crow on backup vox and keys, Toss Panos drums (from among others the Fire Merchants with John Goodsall). A great rendition of Love Lies Bleeding by Elton John.
Such great talent...and so sad. RIP Kevin
Agreed!! Great sound from a great (too short lived) band. It is too bad there was only one album, but if there could only be one - it was worth it!

I totally agree, (Fake) Jody.

The brief live tour of Toy Matinee featured a slightly different lineup, but was quite entertaining . If you can find a live recording of any of the shows (one was broadcast on radio), be sure to check out who was playing keys and doing backup vocals (hint -- Kevin eventually won a Grammy for her album).
They only made one album but it was pure genius - far ahead of their of time considering how sophisticate d it was written, performed, recorded and produced (for 1990).

Kevin Gilbert is no longer with us so neither is Toy Matinee - but this one album will ALWAYS be one of my favorites of ALL TIME. It never gets old and words cannot do it justice.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
