Tom Scott & The L.A. Express

Since he was a teenager, Tom Scott has been consistent, a talented multi-reedist with little or no interest in playing creative jazz. His mother was a pianist and father a composer. Scott early on became a studio musician and arranger. Able to play most reeds with little difficulty, Scott performed with the Don Ellis and Oliver Nelson bands, and his L.A. Express became one of the most successful pop-jazz groups of the 1970s. Associations with Joni Mitchell, Carole King, and George Harrison were just a few of his successful assignments in the pop world and, although his 1992 GRP release Born Again was surprisingly inventive, it was a one-time departure from crossover. ~ Scott Yanow, Rovi

Hey Bio Person are you asleep at the wheel???
Sombody fell asleep on the job doing this brief bio on Tom Scott. It needs a do over!
SEE BHITV.NET JOIN TODAY. HOT NEW SITE... EBLAST ,TWIT,FB TO ALL CONTACTS TO DO THE SAME TODAY. TOM IS CLASSIC SMOOTH-JAZZ AND FOREVER WILL BE.
Yeah somebody screwed up on this bio- Tom Scott is more than creative- he gives the saxophone a unique and totally personal sound, one lick and I know it's him- always dead on for tone, with great ideas melodically, i think he is one of the best there is.
Love the sax. Well done!
Reply to comment from Cliff J.: Yeah I agree, this bio way underplays how talented Tom Scott is. He's one of the top sax players over the last 30 years, no question. And, what's that crap about not producing creative jazz? Complete rubbish..
oh yeah this bring me back to germany in the late 70's
I love Cruisin Bayou....... . . s e x y sax
O.K. - who thinks Tom is at least a little more worthy of a better bio than this dis Scott Yanow wrote?
I loved Blow it Out - so sultry

Love the Tom Cat album, I about wore that record out! What about the New York Connection band of his? That was another good one from about the same era.
Another great tune of Tom's is from his Reed My Lips is Upbeat 90's ...that is one UPBEAT.I play it when doing aerobatics on a simulator ...people just sit and watch(i tell 'emits the music that does it for me) and are in awe.If i was a professional stunt pilot...that would be myWOW song to wake the crowd up with(the things you can do with one of those planes...and the music syncing together). An o t h e r reason why i listen to jazz..all the positive feelings it does to oneself .

'apple juice' WAS a good record. Steve Gadd at his peak and an early Marcus Miller appearance.

This guy plays sax the way it should be played. His style is tight and doesnt need to show off. Definetly a fan.

Where is the album with the jazz cats on the front, from the 1970's album for the discography ?
Scott is back at it again, just like in the 70's....Head bobbin :-)
big ups.
Really nice to hear this again.
Yup "mjbxnyc," Been jammin' to Tom Scott & The LA Express since the early 70s. He can play all reeds, and all types of jazz. I was impressed by his performance on the Motown DVD "Funk Brothers." He is an accomplished musician!

I really like the way that Tom Scott takes control of the musical production in this interesting, and explosive pace of sound. Great Music Tom Scott!!
Tom Scott's saxophone certainly supplied a refreshing antidote to my corporate-wo r l d day. Thanks for the departure! On my list to buy and treasure now!
WOW this is the firt time I have had the pleasure - very nice -
I love saxophone! Tom Scott's music always satisfies my need for more sax.
The classical and unmistakable master been grooving to his music since the seventies and he still sounds as fresh as when i was first turned on to jazz.
