Founded and led by former Autumn Tears, Nest, and Garden of Shadows member Laurie Ann Haus, Todesbonden are a (primarily) metal-tinged outfit, with flourishes of classical, new age, world, and Celtic musical styles thrown in to create a broad, lush, and fantastical sound reminiscent of groups such as Nightwish. The group (the membership would expand to Haus and Jason Aaron Wood in 2003) released its first EP, Stormbringer, in 2004, and in 2005 expanded its lineup further to include Jamie Lamb and Jason Ian-Vaughn Eckert. The foursome then went to work on what would become Todesbonden's first full-length effort, entitled Sleep Now, Quiet Forest. The album, finally finished after the band spent a bit of time holed up at the well-known Fascination Street Studios, was released on Prophecy Productions in 2008. ~ Chris True, Rovi
It is therefore my stance that our media has a responsibility to make a better effort in introducing less well known music. If only in a limited fashion. Perhaps a 3 hour show once a week or so dedicated to this purpose. This is not excusing the ignorant for their lack of effort or passion, but an attempt to broaden their horizons a bit. I see very little of this in our current media. The 1 exception I was aware of (no longer) was our campus radio station, which was an interesting listen.
One thing that I've found when talking to others of my dislike of many mainstream bands, radio stations, media players, audio codecs, etc., is that most people don't care about what they are missing, what options they don't have available to them and so one. As long as it works, and as long as it's easy, they are cool with it. So, the end result is a lack of support for off stream music, software, operating systems, etc, out of willful ignorance.
Yes, good point, and well said. I will take the analogy a bit further however. While McDonald's much easier to find than a good steak joint, the steak joint is much more tangible than obscure music that is not readily available, and thus easier to find.
That does not take away from the individual's responsibility to find the music, just makes it more challenging.
@Old Man Winter, while it's true that cheap, mass produced noise crowds out well crafted music on public airwaves, I don't think the blame lies entirely on the record industry. It would be like saying it's hard to find a fine steak restaurant because there are so many McDonald's everywhere. It's ultimately the listener's responsibility to find AND SUPPORT good bands, not expect the masses who don't care about real music to do it for you.
i agree with old man winters. most of the classic music styles such as rock R&B ect. is being outclassed by the new age dane themed pop and dubstep ect. for the sole reason of that it apeals more the the youth and in turn makes more money in this industry. its a shame that other genres are being outclassed just cuz they dont bring in the big bucks the mega label tycoons want like the new stuff does. i wish there were more small town labels that cared more about producing good music then the dolo
All the great American bands seem to fall into obscurity next to the manufactured pop music with with passes for radio in the US plays incessantly. Musical creativity is under the boot of the music labels.
