Though he also recorded for Windham Hill at one time, this Ohio-based keyboardist is not related to Liz Story. His intimate style thrives on cavernous spaces, an element that eventually caught the attention of Hearts of Space Records, which released what is in many ways his best album, 1991's Beguiled. Other than some early guitar lessons, Tim Story is self-taught. With experience as a recording engineer and a studio musician under his belt, he turned his attention to composing and released his first albums on a tiny Norwegian label called Uniton in 1982. His music attracted the attention of Windham Hill's Will Ackerman, who released two of his albums in the late '80s and included several of Story's pieces on some of the label's samplers. Though his melodic voice is often expressed with uncommon delicacy on grand piano, Story sets the contours of his pieces with broad synthesized brushstrokes in hazy, enigmatic veils of color. Like Harold Budd, he also injects a profound sense of ambiguity into his compositions, suggesting emotions for which there are no words. ~ Linda Kohanov, Rovi
I especially like the track And Evening Falls. I like the way new age and space music used to be composed back in the 80's and early 90's. There was more variation of the melodies note strings. Today's newer material is too simple. That all started around 1994.
I love many of Tim's songs, this became my favorite many years ago and it still is. I can't even describe this song, or where it takes me. God bless you Tim.
love tim story. his music touches me in places i never knew i had till i heard him. "The Perfect Flaw" is just that perfect. i've shared Beguiled with a lover; we gazed into each others eyes till the wonder of it was far too much to bear ... my heart chakra is joyous ...
Haunting, elusive, wistful... Tim Story sweeps me away to places of imagination and twilight sleep. I have every one of his albums and I'm forever captivated by the hypnotic quality which taunts me and challenges me and, invariably, soothes me. I hope to die one day with a Tim Story composition playing in my mind. This will ensure a peaceful transition to whatever awaits... To heaven... To another life... To a sweet, silent nothing...
Evokes a sweet, tender and yet sorrowful nostalgia...like finding love letters or an old photo album in the attic of an abandoned house..definately calls to the heart...
Rarely has an artist captured my imagination so completely. Story has an unnerving ability to play his music straight into my heart, skipping my ears and mind with barely a pause.
