Led by singer/guitarist Tommy Malone and accordionist John Magnie, the Subdudes draw most of their inspiration from the sounds of their native New Orleans, blending blues, gospel, funk, and R&B with their own harmony vocals; their sound is also notable for the band's substitution of a tambourine player for a drummer. The band came together after backing artists such as Joni Mitchell and Roseanne Cash, and released its eponymous debut in 1989. Like the group's subsequent albums (including 1991's Lucky, 1996's Primitive Streak, and 1997's Live at Last), The Subdudes featured a mix of covers and originals. After an eight-year sabbatical, the Subdudes joined Bob Dylan guitarist Freddy Koella to produce Miracle Mule in spring 2004. Keb' Mo' would be the producer for the band's 2006 effort, Behind the Levee, and Street Symphony would follow in 2007. ~ Steve Huey, Rovi
Best live band I've ever seen. Saw them open for Shawn Colvin (Fat City tour) in the 90's and have been a huge fan ever since.

they would be a great act for red rocks -- just the right scale
These guys are so talented!!, I discovered them years back when I was checking out new CD releases at sound warehouse in SA and put the headset on and was awestruck by the variety of instruments and the music literally comes from the heart. I bought the CD. I was so glad to see that they were on the roster at the kerrville folk festival one year. They followed monte mongomery and put on an awessome show. I bought miracle mule. I would like to know where I can find more CDS.

Ran into these guys coming out of the venue they were set to play later in the evening, they were holding carry-out on thier way back to the hotel. They stopped and briefly hoped we would enjoy the show before going to eat. The place was small and it was fantastic seeing these guys up close, almost like they were playing just for us. And they seemed to be genuinely enjoying themselves along with the small crowd. Very cool!
Great live shows ... heard they are taking a break from touring for a few months, but they are definitely performing at Jazzfest, as usual. Tommy and John and the boys are just the best!
Saw them for the first time in Ann Arbor on the 31st. What a treat! One of the best shows I've seen in a long time! Don't miss them if you get the chance.

Lucky enough to have seen them twice at the Ram's Head. Not to be missed!
These guys are awesome in person. They've actually started doing two songs in the middle of the audience (depending on the venue), "The Rain" and "Known to Touch Me" both from the album "Miracle Mule." And of course, they're the reason I'm here; the suggestion to visit Pandora was posted on their forum by another fan.
these guys are the best when can we grt liz barnez on here?

Before they were calling themselves the Subdudes, they used to practice in my living room as the Cartunes or maybe they were the Percolators then; I forget now, it was so long ago. I love them personally as well as their awesome music!
I have seen the dudes about 6 or 7 times mostly in a very small bar in Santa Cruz,CA. They do a song in the middle of the audience that just knocks you out every time!

I learned of the Subdudes in 1998. Great vibe and terrific songs. I saw them live in Santa Cruz and was sad when they broke up. Great to have them back together again. After I had kids, Sugar Pie chokes me up whenever I hear it.
