I looked out across the river today. Saw a city in the fog and an old church town where the seagulls play. Saw the sad shire horses walking home in the sodium light, Two priests on the ferry.

For those of us that don't know Paul Simon very well, it would help if listeners that do know tell the rest of us explicitly how/where Sting has been influenced by him. Give us an education.

I have been a Sting fan since the mid 80s. I have always loved his story telling ability set to such soothing melodies. I love all his music.
I was not familiar with this song, and Googled it so see if, in fact, Paul Simon had written it. Of course, he did not, but I found a couple references to Paul consulting with Sting on this song. STRONG influences...

one of those songs that is absolutely perfect. every note. beautiful lyrics and singing. and the bassline - so simple and exactly the right feel, zillions of bass players can play more notes and faster, but none better.
