Saw him in Ionia , MI in 80's jumped the wall and got to see him play a double neck guitar with his brother reaching around from behind!!! Toooo cool! I was in san diego on the sales floor pearson ford jammun him on mustang gt conv when they announced his passing!!!!! Sad day lost a good soul brother!!!
Saw him in San Diego. My jaw was on the floor the whole time - amazing what he could do with his guitar. I remember laughing because it was so ridiculous. (Also saw Santana there but he was drunk so sucked :( Stevie's death was such a tragedy, especially since he had cleaned up. RIP.
AWESOME, Awesome, awesome!!!!!!! SRV shines when it comes to this song, really any song he does. He has SOOOO much passion with ALL of them. Truly one of THE best guitarist of our time!!!!!!!
i think i prefer SRV over Hendrix simply because Hendrix was inventing it, at times it was sloppy and dare i say it... noise, while SRV perfected it, had the chance to take what Jimi provided and turn it into text book, only its like studying quantum physics.

Yeah, it's a neat trick sounding like Hendrix but also sounding just enough NOT like Hendrix. Only the best die young, it seems. Jeez, can you imagine them jamming on this one together and then sliding into "Little Wing"? If there a heaven, I hope that's part of the show.
Randolph well put. Too many people get caught up with speed or technical gift vs blues or soulful guitar. You have two types of the best guitarists, the blues(SRV, BB, Buddy Guy, Clapton etc etc way too many) and the technical masters( Satriani, Vai, Eric Johnson, Buckethead, etc etc etc). That's how I look at the guitarist, you have the soul and the technical.
what he says is "it's fun playing Hendrix at Carnegie Hall" Deb

many young people think it is all about fast playing and they are missing out on the soul and feeling and passion that needs to be behind every note to be truly great music. Any musician with enough practice can become technically proficient, but to achieve a lifetime of hard times passionately communicated through the guitar as Stevie could do (Great loss) few will ever be able to achieve.
what an amazing song live, srv was born with a guitar in his hands. jeff beck/seal did a nice cover of manic depression on the stone free tribute cd, but this was the closest anybody ever came to getting jimi's guitar sound. great cover.
the closest a man has come to capturing the essence of Henrix's music, gotta love both Jimi and Stevie, thank god for srv,
ubuubok
not that it could ever happen, but SRV almost out-Hendrix's Hendrix

Thanks Stevie. I still miss Jimmi - just a little less when you're playing.

One of the few covers I've ever heard that sound almost as good as the original if not better. The only other one I can think of right now is you really got me cover by van halen. Anyone who can chop down a mountain with the edge of their hands is amazing.
