stellastarr*

While attending Brooklyn's Pratt Institute of the Arts in the late '90s, vocalist/guitarist Shawn Christensen, bassist Amanda Tannen, and drummer Arthur Kremer befriended one another for what would eventually become a musical journey. The threesome had barely grasped the beauty of their respective instruments, so forming the band Ghistor was an interesting move. It was a work in progress and a bond in the making, however short-lived. Christensen, Tannen, and Kremer eventually graduated and tried the corporate thing for a while. They reconnected in spring 2000 with former Charlotte's Funeral guitarist and Philly native Michael Jurin to form the indie rock outfit stellastarr*. A deal with Tiswas followed by 2002 and their EP Somewhere Across Forever appeared the next spring. After much acclaim from the media for the eponymously titled debut full-length, the group returned in 2005 with the follow-up effort Harmonies for the Haunted. In 2009 stellastarr* released Civilized on their own Bloated Wife Records. ~ MacKenzie Wilson, Rovi

They are boring, sound like a hundred other bands with the usual hooks and mediocre musicianship . And, a crummy drummer who knows one beat.
Most underrated band EVER. I wish more people could discover this amazing band! Oh and that they'd end the hiatus.

There are few things that continuously break my heart like the fact that stellastarr* is on indefinite hiatus. Don't get me wrong, I love Dear Comrade (Arthur Kremer's new band) and I'm getting into Camera2 (featuring Michael Jurin), but I can only hope that stellastarr* will eventually have some sort of reunion.
They are incredible.
Oh Stellastarr* , you've accompanied my teen years.

I know it's been years...smok S c r e e n , you have to listen to the guitars, bass and drums. If you just listen to vocals, you will never understand music
Ah yes, been almost 2 months since that last entry I posted and I have thouroughly fallen enfatuated with their sound and while it does bring to mind the sound of atleast a handful of other (good) artists they are ultimatly and actually Quite unique and I can't wait till they release their next album which will hopefully happen soon!
Zach B. states foolish comments and is obviously a fool himself. This band and the singer are Quite good and deserve much higher praise! It's so nice to live life as somthing more than a stupid fool!

LOVE THEM!! Better in concert.
Everyone says they're derivative, but I guess my ear is not that sophisticate d . I love their sound, and they've quickly become a big favorite of mine!

AMAZING IN CONCERT!...T h i s group is passionate and gripping when they perform. A MUST see and hear!
Sorry, but I rate them a solid "Meh" I like his voice, sorta David Byrne, but to twangy and poppy for me
They sound like all the other twangy, wanna-be 80s throwback bands. You listen to a Pandora station with Japan, Chameleons, Kissing the Pink, Psych Furs, etc. and these hacks come on and you hear the difference within seconds. No good.
These guys are phenomenal in concert. Every song ends in chaos but it's great!
Sounds like a member of the band wrote the description.
the vocals threw me at first but the melding of the frank zappa - like voice with the girl's really works (surprisingl y ) well.
the singer kinda reminds me of the guy from the aquabats

I love this band. The singer, at least in his style, sounds much like Bryan Ferry (Roxy Music).

estoy de acuerdo con "Goth-Ann" this guys are la berraquera! I got to see them in San Francisco and they were "awesome"
nice the singing sounds like a lower more controlled arcade fire.
I want some CoCo too. What a jam.
I love the lead singer's voice. Their music style is really interesting. 'Sweet Troubled Soul' is awesome!!! Great guitars, etc., and the lyrics are hysterical. "And when you're naked in the dark I want to see your face reflected in my bedroom stereo." Shades of 'Paradise By The Dashboard Light'!! LOL!
Awesome band! I love it!
