Stavesacre

The hardcore CCM supergroup Stavesacre formed in 1995, with vocalist Mark Solomon (the Crucified, Native Son), guitarist Jeff Bellew (Crucified, Chatterbox), drummer Jeremy Moffat (the Blamed), and bassist Dirk Lemmenes. Heavy and leaning toward hardcore metal and thrash, their original sound had more in common with Die Happy or Tourniquet. The group released their debut album, Friction, in early 1996, followed a year later by Absolutes. In that time, Scaterd Few drummer Sam West had replaced Moffat. Stavesacre returned in 1999 with Speakeasy with a new second guitarist, Ryan Dennee. Bellew left very soon after to get married, so Stairwell guitarist Neil Samoy took his place. A collection, aptly titled Collective, summed up their period on Tooth & Nail, chronicling their slow transition from heavy metal to emo rock. By the time of their Nitro Records debut, (stavz'a'ker), the band had fully transitioned into an emo band. The group released two full-lengths shortly thereafter: 2001's Collective and 2002's (stavz'a'ker). ~ John Bush, Rovi

I never cared for most of Stavesacre's music, but I have always loved the Absolutes album. In 1998 I saw them in concert and told Mark Salomon how great it was to have a good Christian metal band to listen to. He said, Don't say metal. That's a bad word. What a jerk.

Awesome band.

Emo? Wow, couldn't be futher from the truth. Just because they weren't well receievd by the media doesn't automaticall y make them emo singling without a cause. They are rock to the bone, and one of the most underrated and appreciated bands i've ever heard. Their first 3 albums were all amazing for their time!

This bio was totally bunk. They are a rock band. Leave it there. They are by no means a CCM band and in principle were very much anti-CCM because it's crap. Stavesacre never got famous because they weren't cutesy-Chris t i a n enough for CCM to embrace and were too Christian for the world. They didn't fit in anywhere but with us who like good music.

This isn't emo. That's ridiculas. More like post-grunge. It has some elements of modern pop-emo but not fully transitioned into emo.

hey audio adrenaline was one of the 5 or 10 best christian alt rock bands ever and definitely one of the 3 or 4 most successful
Report as inappropriate
There was nothing emo about Stavesacre! You nothing about the band but what you've read. Let someone who listens to the music, create the bio.
Stavesacre; in my mind was extremely robbed in the Christian music industry. Not sure how a band so good could be limited to venues like bars and coffee shops, while crap bands like Audio Adrenaline flourished.

nothing metal/trash, and nothing really emo band. very thought provoking lyrics (especially on Absolutes which is the best!). Tourniquet?? I don't remember Stavesacre doing inverted time signatures or 3-8 time and key changes in a song, or classical lead guitars....T r u e , their sound has changed from their early beginnings from very punk influenced (look at the bands all of the members came from), to a more mellow alternative/ i n d i e sounding style of rock. favorite band!

Absolutes is an absolute classic (pun intended), especially if you like quality lyrics. On another note these writers are really bad. Hardcore? Metal? Thrash? No, no, no. And they tend to call everything with loud guitars death metal.

"Thrash Metal transition to an Emo band"??? Does this guy know anythng about music? Their sound hasn't changed much and has a variety to it.

That bio is horrible - there's nothing metal/thrash about them.

Somebody shoot the singer! My Gawd!

Best live show I've been to was them, Living Sacrifice and Project 86 all in their hayday. One of the events in my life I'd most like to be able to replay. Unreal.

Just heard something off (Stav'a'ker) and it didn't sound "emo" to me. I hate that term anyway. But I liked what I heard. And (@bcthomsen0 ) yay for Columbus OH!

(Continued) I also agree that they are great in concert. I have seen them several times out here in CA, and they never disappoint.

Favorite band ever. While the band clearly had a slow transition, emo is way off the mark. Looking at when the review seems to be written, the most recent album would be (Stav'a'ker) which is in my opinion the 'softest' of their albums, but is not emo. Take their most recent album, HoLWaC, and you would have trouble labeling them emo by any stretch. Every single album is really great, and I have difficulty picking a favorite.

Greatest rock band.
Ever.
That guy that wrote the bio above must be missing a chromosome. Stavesacre is not emo.

way cool in concert
