The electric guitar is still seen as edgy and cool.

However, the instrument has been around since 1931, and has been popular since the '50s.

I think it's high time we considered the electric guitar to be, far from edgy and new, rather mainstream.

The cello (along with its smaller cousin, the violin) is the new electric guitar.
