One of the few producers to pursue a real fusion of jazz and house music, Frenchman Ludovic Navarre began recording in the early '90s using various aliases (Subsystem, Modus Vivendi, Deepside) for a range of French imprints. St. Germain debuted in 1994 for Laurent Garnier's F Communications label and Navarre released his first album, Boulevard, in 1996. Featuring trumpeter Pascal Ohse, the album worked as a hybrid of American R&B and jazz with the growing French house scene exemplified by Garnier, la Funk Mob, and Dimitri From Paris. Tourist took the concept further with Navarre working post-production on a fuller complement of musicians and earned release on Blue Note. Navarre has also remixed such varying artists as Björk, Pierre Henry, and the Suburban Knight. ~ John Bush, Rovi
Stumbled on the TOURIST CD (yes, CD!) in a used CD store about 8 years ago. Favorite moment: hearing it played on a bus in New Zealand 2 years later. The WORLD is so cool!
I agree with wettsun21, St. Germaine might be one of the best things I've stumbled across on Pandora. Oh yeah, and I agree with Josie del Castillo as well :)
I've been into it from the beginning. The bottom line question with music fro me is like Stevie Wonder said. Can you feel it? The resounding answer here is.............................. YEAH!!!!!!!!!!
What!!!! Where have I been!! This is the truth!!!!

I bought "tourist" in 2000 when it came out, and it quickly became my album of choice all that summer. Going on 11 years later, it still sounds fresh and impossibly good. Why nothing new in all this time??
the tourist cd i would take on a deserted island....all good

St. Germain quickly became my all time favorite jazz group. It has a well balanced fusion of styles. Bold and smooth. Just like a good wine.
These guys are studio wizards but can't deliver LIVE... I saw Thievery Corporation live and they sucked. NO DRUMMER!!! How can you have a jazz group with no drummer? They played turntables and had live musicians play to the beats and it was WEAK. No real energy which is what Jazz music is really about: Spiritual energy. But, like Hip-Hop, they can creat some good sounding tracks in the studio. Just don't expect anything transcendent live.
yeah, im diggin the sure thing track a lot! actually i don't think i've heard a bad track from them. anyone know if they're coming to l.a. anytimg soon?
