My first time hearing Splashdown was in 1999 on a high school underground style radio station. The song was Iron Spy. The song struck a chord with me and even th though I didn't know who the were, or even the name of the song at the time, I always remembered the song and searched the internet for another three years before I found them. I was instantly a fan of the rest of the group's work and also disappointed to find out they had broken up.

I HATE this new skin. I can't see the previous cuts, if you scroll over the page it skips songs you like, it is impossible to navigate around and get back to where you were. Either fix this thing or go back to the old skin, please.

Hey Pandora I have there complete set of songs or at least all that can be found by scouring the internet. Their isn't any way to get them since as other commenters have said before disbanded.
No, the leak didn't kill the band. That was done after they disbanded. Read the wikipedia article for Splashdown to find out what really killed them.

When you look at the fact that they've made their music available for free online now that they've disbanded, if internet leakage was at all responsible they don't seem too put out about it. This is a band I miss, even if they were formula at times they were still a formula I enjoy.
Stars and Garters as well as Halfworld (both not owned by Capitol) are available on iTunes so hopefully they'll be picked up on Pandora at some point. Blueshift probably never will, though, but I'd love to see what it throws at me based on those, as I particularly love Stars and Garters.
Everything I've heard and read points more towards the label shafting the band causing them to break up rather than internet leaks. It certainly didn't help anything, but if you look at some of the stuff they were put through it was probably just a drop in the ocean of s**t they had to put up with.
This is a fantastic enigma. Soft vocals with a slight hint of middle eastern melodies. I really enjoy what I am hearing, but I can see why they didn't break into mainstream. If you were to break the band into its constituent elements it is completely generic, but yet skillfully done. Reading the comments I can easily see the leaking of music onto the internet killing this band.
One other listener mentioned that they were played in NY. Everyone is played in NY. Had they gotten an underground fo
I'm so sad I didn't find out about these guys 'til they split up. :C

And yeah, I saw them live once and they were AWSOME. Damn shame they couldn't survive with the legal issues. :(

Amazing band. From what I have heard the band broke up shortly after the Blueshift album was made. Some kind of legal battle ensued and the album was leaked. I know there is a wikipedia entry on the band. P.S. Melissa Kaplan made an album under the band name "Universal Hall Pass" You can really tell she was a major force in songwritting for Splashdown. I think Itunes sells it.
Their largest following was probably created by WBER, Rochester NY's Non-profit alternative radio station. They played Mayan Pilot, Iron Spy and Charming Spell.

They actually had one song that gave them a small following. It was called Charming Spell and it aired on the show "Charmed". They also had another song that was on an album for a movie, it is called "Karma Slave". Although no one knows lots of their most incredible music, they seem to incorporate dance, jazz, spanish guitar, new wave and host of other sounds that give thma a unique quality. Mellisa Kaplin's newer project, UHP (Universal Hall Pass) is great and has some great downloads.
Splashdown is the greatest band no one has ever heard of. My discovery of their immortal "Blueshift" was a revelation and a puzzle: how could an album so incredible not be famous? Nearly a decade later, their regrettably tiny catalogue has lost none of its luster. Melissa Kaplan's voice is one of the most extraordinary I've ever heard, nearly unreal in its range, effortless elasticity and sexy intelligence (or is it intelligent sexiness?). Holy wow. Find and listen.
