An indie pop group whose electronica-tinged tunes nod to Pavement, Of Montreal, and Field Music, the Spinto Band formed in 1996, spearheaded by Nick Krill, who was inspired to form the band when he came across some song lyrics written by his late grandfather, Roy Spinto. The band's original lineup included Jon Eaton, Albert Birney, brothers Thomas and Sam Hughes, and brothers Jeffrey and Joey Hobson; Birney would eventually leave the group in order to go to art school. Self-releasing seven albums over the course of the next eight years, the Spinto Band was picked up by Bar-None for the release of their eighth album, Nice and Nicely Done, in 2005. The album generated quite a bit of critical buzz, enough so that the album was picked up for re-release on Virgin UK the following year. The next three years found the Spinto Band making high profile appearances on the Jools Holland Show and at the SXSW festival, as well as releasing several singles on EMI and Virgin. The Spinto Band's ninth full-length, Moonwink, was released on Fierce Panda and Park the Van in the fall of 2008. ~ Margaret Reges, Rovi
WHOA! What an instant favorite. Like Franz Ferdinand/Clap Your Hands Say Yeah/The Teeth rolled up into one, but decidedly their own act. Digging the second album a bit more. Great call Pandora
I missed them when they came to SLC. Seems like I always get into bands after they come and put on some amazing show. However my friends said it was the same case, amyheartsjapan2. There were about 5 people at the venue, and they even helped them load there stuff up post-show.
Saw them live a few years ago in Tampa. The show was small so we were able to talk after they played. Really cool guys, cool music, loved their first album, loved the stage presense. So I was pleasantly surprised to hear a song of theirs randomly play on a new station I made today. It made my day.
yeah dude, the whole point of indie rock is to be whatever the hell you are. these guys are flat out nuts onstage, yet they still pull off amazing music. it's offbeat, but it's what they do best. i think the energy is contagious.

I wish their official bio mentioned something about Song Fight (songfight.org), which many of their songs were originally written for. Oh well.
dean.davidson if u even read the biography, it said they stumbled across his grandfather's lyrics. and these guys are quirky all indie rock bands are quirky so some of they're lyrics are odd.//
..."Cornelius is a Pop Star" = The Spinto Band has the worst lyricist ever.

If I remember right, these guys were just flat out odd onstage, rocking back and forth...I think I saw them like two or three years ago at Schubas in Chicago. Are they still doing that? It was so off putting.
Its true there isn't a single good band that plays live and doesn't stage dive. Forget about good musicianship, or the bands ability to play cohesively, or song writing ability. If there isn't any stage diving then they suck as a live act..
