Los Angeles heavies Spineshank began in February of 1996, rising from the ashes of a previous band, Basic Enigma (which included future Spineshankers Johnny Santos on vocals, Mike Sarkisyan on guitars, and Tom Decker on drums). Basic Enigma broke up upon hearing Demanufacture, the 1996 release by electro-metallists Fear Factory, but soon re-formed with a different sound and moniker, and a new bassist (Robert Garcia). The band soon befriended Fear Factory guitarist Dino Cazares, who upon hearing their demo, offered the new band to open a show for F.F. at the Whiskey A-Go-Go in Los Angeles. This led to other coveted opening slots (with such popular acts as Coal Chamber, Snot, Soulfly, Sepultura, and Danzig, among others), and label interest, with Roadrunner eventually signing the band. Their debut, Strictly Diesel, was released in September of 1998, and featured yet another tie-in with their favorite band: Fear Factory vocalist Burton C. Bell sings on the track "Stain." Height of Callousness followed two years later. ~ Greg Prato, Rovi

Saw these guys back in '99-'00ish and they rocked hard as *#&$! Met Johnny after the show and he was a super cool dude. Diggin' his SIlent Civilian stuff now. Great music to workout/lift to or just go ape@#%$.
I first met Johnny back in Aug of 99 they came up to a club here in Chico, Nor Cal (for you out of stater's Northern Californians tend not to care too much for so Cal people.. Not all but most of em seem fake) I was 19 at the time and was sneaking shots so I got kicked out, some crappy local band was first on stage so I was pissed but it ended up starting my way to becoming a front man.... I remember going to this huge a** tour bus, I knew it wasn't SpineShanks or HED (pe)'s cause they both had
Johnny hey man how are like going, when are you comming back to the carolina? you and band can stay at house again......eileen

The trying to sound like Sevendust comment is ridiculous!! They blow Sevendust out of the water, and they have NEVER sounded like them! Sevendust is a lame excuse for a band.
Spineshank put on some great shows no doubt about it.The first time I saw them they were opening for Machine Head and they were not impressive at all and Rob & the boys would just blow them offstage but a couple of years after that I saw them open for Orgy's 'Vapor Transmission' tour and they were stealing the show nightly. However the albums IMO were 60% filler.Seems as though Santos was saving all of his best material for SC.I'll buy a comeback album "if" they do it but won't hold my breathe.
Saw Silent Civilian a few months ago in Dallas, and got to hang out with the band after the show. They just seemed like regular guys. Oh, yeah, the show was great, too!
Saw them at OzzFest 2000. They were real dicks to their stage crew b/c of some problems with their guitars. Don't know why this stuck out in my memory. I just was really excited to see them, and then saw them acting crappy. Hopefully that's not the way they still are.
Santos has since went on to form Silent Civilian and released 2 albums with that band. I personally love Silent Civilian and am looking forward to seeing them tour behind their latest album entitled 'Ghost Stories'.Santos recently stated that him and Spineshank have reconciled and are working on an new album slated for later this year. I saw Spineshank open for ORGY 10 yrs. ago or so and came away from that show with the understanding of how underrated Santos is as a frontman..Great show.
These guys sound nothing like Sevendust,as a matter of fact I have no idea where that comparison comes from besides right out of your a$$. In the beginning their sound was similar to that Fear Factory whom they are very good friends with. They just totally blew me away with 'Strictly Diesel' but then sorta fell into nu-metal tendencies with 'the hieght of Callousness',the album was still good.'Self Destructive pattern'found them trying to move back to their original sound but the album fell short
It does suck that no one really knows about these guys. I think rock stations should play their stuff. I mean, their stuff is more hardcore than some of the songs they play. =/
lisuru98
the top songs from them are self-destructive pattern, dead to me,stillborn, new disease, and height of callousness
Great band that not many people I talk to know about. We need to get the word out! 3 great albums sitting on the shelf, just waiting to be bought. Go buy now, everyone, and hear the sounds of the great Spineshank!

i believe pandora is missing one of their cds called strictly diesel... i expected a little more from pandora than to leave a cd out and im not sure but i think it was their first cd
It is. However, Gracey would probably not enjoy listening to a band preach about their religious beliefs. So, if Gracey enjoys the music as it is, it is better for him/her that the band does not do this, ruining (as 133 put it) an otherwise enjoyable listening experience.

I thought music was a great, constructive, appropriate, creative outlet for bands to sing about, express, or send a message about anything they want; whether it's religious beliefs, doing drugs, relationships, death, etc.
