The Swedish metal sextet Soilwork formed in early 1997, fusing the country's signature ultra-heavy death metal sound with the power-groove riffs of late-'70s, early-'80s British and European metal. Vocalist Bjorn "Speed" Strid, guitarists Peter Wiches and Ola Frenning, and drummer Henry Ranta were all veterans of the Swedish scene by the time they recorded their first demo, In Dreams We Fall into the Eternal, in 1997; bassist Ola Flink became a permanent member afterward, as did keyboardist Carlos Del Olmo Holmberg. Their official debut album, Steelbath Suicide, was released in 1998 and wound up landing Soilwork a U.S. deal with Century Media. The follow-up, The Chainheart Machine, appeared in 2000. Predator's Portrait followed a year later. The band kept up the momentum yearly with Natural Born Chaos in 2002, Figure Number Five in 2003, the Early Chapters EP in 2004, Stabbing the Drama in 2005, and the Sworn to a Great Divide CD/DVD in 2007. ~ Steve Huey, Rovi
@ I Hate... I dunno man, for me, Figure 5 is their weakest effort, although I still do like the album. Its still Soilwork... Its the album I listen to the least we'll say. I actually think The Living is their stongest effort to date although Stabbing is a more long lasting album.
Albums from greatest to least favorite: 1) Stabbing the Drama 2) The Living Infinate 3) Sworn 4) The Panic 5) Natural Born 6) The Chainheart 7) Preditor 8) Steelbath 9) Figure
I went to see them in Detriot about 6 years ago with Mnemic & Threat Signal. Soilwork wasn't even there cause their visa's expired or some BS! I was so PISSED!!!!!
Lol I do agree. To my taste in flames is better. But they're both very talented. \m/^^\m/ To me my favorites in my top 5 would have to be 1. Sybreed 2. In flames. 3 Insomnium. 4 Shai Hulud and 5. Dark Tranquility. Love them all. ^^
I have every single album and then some. But haven't gotten very into anything after Stabbing. I've been hooked on Disarmonia Mundi like a motherf.cker though!
I remember when I found this band years ago. I bought one. then bought another.. then another.. I think I have at least 4, maybe 5 of their albums. All of there music is amazing. I can't wait for the new album to land.
I can't wait to get paid so I can buy all of their albums.

Gotta love how versatile the entire band is, every album has a different sound, and it's all AMAZING! Speed reminds me of Rob Halford, how he can constantly warp his vocals to suit the needs of the songs and the parts within them.
Definitely in my top 3 bands for sure. Not too many metal bands have this kind of style. I discovered Disarmonia Mundi and later found out that the singer for Soilwork also sang in that band in some songs.
Sworn to a great divide is the album that got me into these guys but i do believe Scar Symmetry is better (Holographic Universe to be more precise, the 2 new singers suck sompared to the 1 old singer)
you're all wrong, Dimmu Borgir is a bad a** Blackened Metal band. anyone who say's theyre black metal doesnt know what black metal is. no necrosound recording, no black metal. just ask the count from Berzum
Ive had the luxury of meeting Strid and the guys several times. When Soilwork comes to my home town (Pittsburgh PA) my friends band opens for them. In case you didn't know, they love the city of Pittsburgh. The Pittsburgh Syndrome was written about a night of drinking on the south side, which is a long strip of bars in PGH. I used to spend two nights a week down the south side. Small f**kin world. So if your even in the steel city, be sure to visit the south side for some heavy drinking.
