Tween indie rock duo Smoosh formed in Seattle in 2002. At the time, eight-year-old Chloe (last name withheld) was a student at the Seattle Drum School whose instructor Jason McGerr (later the drummer in Death Cab for Cutie) suggested she begin collaborating with other fledgling musicians to better understand the role of percussion in rock music. Chloe simply went home and began playing with her ten-year-old sister Asya, who despite quitting piano lessons was now writing her own clever, buoyant songs on her keyboard. Dubbing the project Smoosh, the sisters recorded a demo of Asya's songs, and soon were staples of the local live circuit -- not only was the duo invited to perform live on Seattle's influential KEXP, but from there they were invited to open dates for acts including the aforementioned Death Cab, Sleater-Kinney, and Cat Power. After signing to the local Pattern 25 label, Smoosh teamed with producer Johnny Sangster to record its 2004 debut album, She Like Electric. In 2006, the sisters signed with indie stalwart Barsuk, which released their second album, Free to Stay, the same year. ~ Jason Ankeny, Rovi
Pretty good...they have a nice beat. But their voices are just a little too screechy and little-girly to really be enjoyable. If they'd sung these a few years later it would have sounded a lot better. They have a lot of talent, though. : )
Similar artists...Kate Nash, Lily Allen. OK, Pandora. I already had a Lily Allen station with many Kate Nash songs thumbed up. Why aren't any Smoosh songs appearing on that station? :)

The thing about this song is that the vocals seem a bit off. It's just a darn cute song though!
i saw them at madison square garden and at lupos heartbreak hotel in providence with bloc party and tokyo police club a few years ago and they were amazing

I wish I could claim to have been this talented at 12.
I can't believe I just bookmarked organ talk, because the song actually did make me bob my head, but they are so young what could they possibly know about music...... I quit be a musician haha
I heard some songs from the Free to Stay album. Really liked it. Actually had been listening to it for awhile here on Pandora and diggin it. Finally decided to check out the group and wow am I suprised it's just... well two little girls. Good on ya both. Great stuff.
Wow! I love their fresh sound. SO mature for an 8 and 10-year old. Awesome.

I remember hearing them live at a friend's wedding and was totally amazed at their sound for their age. I would have expected something more akin to Brittany-wanna-be's and was so very pleasantly surprised at their mature sound.
It's crazy how hard these girls kill it. I don't even know what I was doing at their age but I definitely wasn't blowing people away with my prowess on a keyboard.
To both Fairygirl and abullo2: Yes, Asya and Chloe's younger sister, Maia, is now performing with them as a part of Smoosh. She wasn't, however, when this biography was originally written. (Pandora isn't always the best about keeping up-to-date artist profiles.)
phoenixserap: Pandora seem to use All Music Guide for biography info...
Anyways..I'm surprised i liked this group..You can tell it's a young person singing but i was into it.
abullo2
wait, didn't their younger sister join?
fuleihans
i thought that there were three of them, but i guess not
although on their website, in the pictures, there is definetly more than 2 kids
also, they are, like teenagers now
my sister introduced me to them last year she was 17 at the time, and it's kinda funny, cause singers like aly and aj and the jonas brothers r older than Smoosh, and they attract young fans, and Smoosh attracts their age and older!
I thought they might be youngsters (the sound of the singer's voice was evident), but all in all age can never determine talent. This is especially true when it comes to this fine pianist/singer sister duo. Much love for the young and ambitious! Keep on conquering!

I can't help but turn the volume up when "Free to Stay" comes up! Groove on, little ladies.
