Skindred blend reggae and dancehall with searing thrash and punk influences for a striking take on heavy metal hybridism. The group emerged from Wales in 1998, after the dissolution of vocalist Benji Webbe's previous band, Dub War. Rehearsals for a new project featuring other Dub War veterans didn't work out, but soon Webbe had hooked up with bassist Daniel Pugsley, guitarist Mikey Dee, and drummer Dirty Arya, and Skindred were officially born. The debut LP, Babylon, first appeared in 2002 and 2003, with sporadic success in parts of Europe and the U.S. metal underground. But it wasn't until a year or so later and Lava's involvement that the album really took off. Skindred re-released Babylon in August 2004. Lava's version featured different cover art, and included newly recorded material in addition to the original, Howard Benson-helmed songs. The band released Roots Rock Riot in 2007, followed by Shark Bites and Dog Fights in 2009. ~ Johnny Loftus, Rovi
i found this band during an problamatic search on google when i clicked on their name and listened to their music i have been hooked ever since and they still amaze me with their music
My Skindred seeded station is pretty boss. Stays pretty solidly around Skindred, Korn, Disturbed, Breaking Benjamin, and Sevendust, then throws a few curve balls like Coheed and Cambria, White Zombie, and an occasionally tolerable Seether track. Happy to share it if anyone is interested.
let me clear up 2 misconceptions going on here:
1.) this is NOT the first or best band to blend reggae and power, let me introduce you all to Bad Brains, they started this trend over 30 years ago (1978)
2.) Stop comparing any other bands to Skindred, because though they may not be the only band like it, they are the only one still playing as a band and are very good at what they do.
Babylon is much better than Roots Rock Riot. Both are good in their own right

Been loving this band since their inception, but yeah I gotta admit their last cd left me disappointed (i did the pre-order and all... got all psyched when it arrived.. and then had the most anti-climact i c listening ever:( Here's hoping they get their energy back for the next one
Best live band I've ever seen, hands down!! Nothing like 'em!!

Met this band on the Need For Speed: Underground soundtrack. "Nobody", it was. Excellent accompaniment for sliding 150+mph around a virtual city, I always thought.
Theadoredehart-Puscifer is awful and Maynard has become what he never really wanted to be,Overrated. That wine he makes is crap, its made from Arizona sour grapes and tastes cheap. TOOL is what paid for that winery yet he treats fans of his music like s**t when they show up at his bottle signings. On the otherhand TOOL is still great and I have seen APC a few times and they were truly great (Both Line-ups). It really blows that this guy had to turn into another premadonna ego maniac he was cool.
These guy suck, probably the most annoying sound in rock today.

Caught Skindred at their last show in the states...they played at a really small bar...less than 50 people...but played all their old stuff and really set it off...if you get a chance...see them live...they are all about the fans and are true to their music...
Come back to the M.B., cause my grandson (Isaac)rips up your C.D. ALOT!! Your always welcome here;He always tells people he met rock stars from England, and he hammers on my drumset way more nowdays, how f-'in cool is that?
I SAW THEM 2. THEY ROCK! i think that this cd sounds alot like they did live.

This band is pure energy live. I just saw them with Disturbed (who also rocked totally hard by the way). If you have the opprotunity to see them live drop what you are doing and go, it is so worth it. CDs do NOT do this band justice...
Maynard is a musical God. I show Tool in L.A. a couple of years ago best show I every saw! Anyone who loves tool needs to check out Pussifired. P.S. Maynard owns and operates his own winery and makes pretty bad a** wine.
you are an absolute idiot, Maynard is the coolest front man ever GO TOOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SKINDRED IS PRETTY COOL TO.
Tool and Perfect Circle are nothing like these guys... How are you gonna call something WAY BETTER when its like comparing apples with shoes.. Also, if you go to see Skindred in concert, the singer doesn't stand there with his back to the crowd the whole show, like Maynard does.
is there anything better?
PS I LOVE PANDORA for intrducing them to me

VERY unique sound! A really unorthodox compound of genres that one probably wouldn't normally think of combining so successfully. These guys rock, I wants MOAR!

Saw these guys by accident opening for Gogol BOrdello- one word, badddass! Soo good! Love Babylon. The band demanded that the audience get dancing. :D

This band is the best. I have heard nothing like them where reggae and hard rock are blended together. The melodies are amazing and I adore Benji's voice against those hard guitars. I wish they would tour the U.S.
