Born in Bergen, Norway in 1969, Sissel had appeared on Norwegian television several times as a child, but came into the public eye with her stellar vocal performances at the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer. She sings in her native tongue, in addition to English and Latin, similar in style and substance as the Irish ethereal vocalist Enya. Two albums in the mid-'90s, Innerst I Sjelen and Deep Within My Soul, found a small but dedicated audience and led to a prominent place as the voice of James Horner's maritime muse in the smash 1997 film Titanic. 1997 also brought about a project with rapper Warren G on an unusual compilation of hip hop and classical recordings on Mercury/Def Jam, which became a hit in Europe. Recording under her full name, Sissel Kyrkjebø, she recorded Gift of Love for Polygram in 1999. ~ Michael Ofjord and Zac Johnson, Rovi
What a beautiful romantic candlelit dinner with my beloved, listening to Sissel's music, then sitting in front of a fire in the fireplace on a rainy evening. sigh.
shenendoah. Beautiful, Beautiful song. I live next to the wide Missouri in Omaha. It splits Omaha, Nebraska and Council Bluffs, Iowa which is only 4 blocks from where I live in Omaha. I want to live next to a body of water but I want to face it and be able to play in it every Summer.
Ave Maria. I love this artist. She's got a beautiful voice. I love this song better by Pavarotti though. Always have and always will. We used to sing this in Mass during Christmas at the St. Brigid's Church in Hanford/Lemoore, CA. I miss that. We used to have some of the most beautiful celebrations at this church.
I love this singer. Should It Matter. For me it matters. This is a very, very good song. I love the lyrics. Wow. That's an apology song. A deep apology song. I would forgive this person. That's deep. I love this song

Her music is beautiful! Never heard such a heartfelt peace.

No, she does not sound like Enya...ethereal, yes, but in a slightly more operatic fashion. Each lady has her own qualities and ways of making music. I can't remember where I first heard Sissel, but I do know it was sometime around New Year's 2011. Her voice is beautiful and I like hearing her sing in Norwegian...I find it refreshing to hear, really. My mother tongue is English and I hear it every day--but my soul drinks up the sound of non-English languages (though I prefer folk tunes to opera)
An old sacred stalwart. A clarion voice. A moment of sublimity. I remember this song being sung at Senator Edward Kennedy and lifting spirits in that surreal moment. (Cee Rex)
The Sea wolf of Elgin Oregon says What a voice, Paul Potts get in step with this lady and the world will be calling. I love the voice. Much like Charlett Church
Sissel has become one of my favorite female vocalists. I have several albums of Celtic Woman but Sissel's style and voice, I think, are superior. And what a lovely lady!
Sissel, How does it feel to be the most beautiful girl on the enternet along with Kathryn Grason?

Crystal Clear and soothing. Great music for a hectic world.

WOW! I have bought several CDs and her 'Northern Lights" DVD and they are now staples of my "shuffle" listening! I wish I could find recordings of the stuff she sang at tje Lillehamer games! Makes me now think that the "muse" from Titanic was more of a "siren"
I set up my Mother to listen to pandora and she is listening for the first time since 1950, to music she loved as a child and young lady.. Very cool!!

I first saw Sissel on Public Broadcasting a few years ago. I really enjoy her music and hit the music stores to find her music. She is a great artist and a lovely lady. May her and her music be around for years to come.

Softly, quietly lulled me into a state of tranquility when I needed it.
One of the most beautiful voices I have ever heard... I love this girl!

Search for Sissel on YouTube for her version of Imagine by John Lennon. I believe she was in her early 20's but her version is even better than the original.
Haunting vocals with a piercingly pure quality. She brings old traditional music to the new generation in a way few can, yet has time to create new works of art. Magnifique!
I love her voice! Great for calming down and getting a lot of homework done. Just love her!

What a crystal clear voice from heaven...I am also a singer/songwriter and I so love to hear beauty anywhere I can find it. Sissel voice optimizes beauty and a clarity or rang that pierces my soul!

I agree that she does not sound like Enya for two reasons:
1. Enya is a Mezzo-soprano, although very light in vocal coloring and weight, while Sissel is a soprano. They sing in different vocal ranges.
2. Enya relies on vocal layering to create her sound, while Sissel does not.
I love both artists, and while their voices might have some similar qualities in terms of weight and color, their vocal styles are completely different.
