Shipping News

Shipping News formed as a result of Jeff Mueller and Jason Noble writing and recording music for the NPR program "This American Life." The two met in 1996 and were joined a year later by Kyle Crabtree, making the band complete. The three took the band's name from a novel by E. Annie Proulx, and released their first record, Save Everything, in the summer of 1997. They followed up the album a year later, in May, with a split EP CD with Metroshifter. Three years later, in 2001, Shipping News released their second full-length album, Very Soon, and in Pleasant Company. The album was written over a two and half year period and recorded in Kentucky and Pennsylvania. Three EPs - RMSN EP 1: Carrier, RMSN EP 2: Sickening Bridge and RMSN EP 3: Variegated - were released between fall 2001 and fall 2002. Several months later, the band issued a collection of those EPs with three brand new tracks under Three Four. ~ Diana Potts, Rovi

this is one of the greatest bands that i have stumbled across in the last few years. haymaker off Three-Four is probably the most beautiful thing i have ever heard. A+

The Bio's a little wrong. They didn't meet in 1996, they were in Rodan (1994's Rusty) together. Jason Noble is fighting Cancer currently, so thoughts are with him and his family.'

Wow, what an ignorant comment, Bromide. Because they "sold out" right. They weren't punk enough for you anymore, because you only listen to a band if most people haven't heard of them yet, right. Anyways, I thought this band was Shellac when it came on, so they must be pretty good.
I met Jason and Jeff in 1988 and they were already tight by then.
@katey margolis
do you care to elaborate on your gripe? if not in 1996, when did they meet then? oh, and diana potts wrote the bio...it says that right after the bio.
kmargolis
Jason and Jeff did not meet in 1996! Who wrote this bio??
Like Fugazi? That's crazy talk! More like sonic youth meets Jesus and Mary Chain.

I hope they're like good Fugazi, because if they're like post-Repeate r Fugazi, THEN THEY SUCK!!!!!!!! ! ! !
This band is alot like fugazi.Very very good.
the metroschifte r split came first yall.it was released as a special promo for the very first krazyfest.it had a metal etched album cover for the first run.really nice.those songs were then released on save everything six months later.
A True Lovers Knot, the last track off of this album, is one of my favorite instrumental tracks of all time.
How intriguing!
Reminded me a little of 74 Crimson with the odd-metered power chords and bass playing.
