Shahid Parvez is a middle-ranking sitar player. The son of Aziz Khan and the grandson of Wahid Khan, he was performing in public before he was ten years old. ~ Ken Hunt, Rovi
Ridiculous bio, when did we start an artist ranking scheme.

Mr. Hunt, if you keep writing such reviews, you might end up being a midldle-ranking critic. Or is that where you currently are and fast continuing down a slippery slope?
Kindly remove the term middle ranking. Shahidji is one of the finest sitarist. His music has space and silence embedded in it. Only the ones who are seeped in silence can appreciate his music. Ken Hunt should learn the art of remaining in silence before labeling someone as middle ranking. What right has he to judge someone of the caliber of Shahid Parvez ? Shahidji's music is divine.

Ustadji is one of the finest musicians from India. He is certainly not middle ranking.

Oy, everybody's a critic.

It takes understanding of music in general, understanding of indian classical music and sitar in particular, years of listening to various genres and styles, knowledge of the various masters and their styles and techniques, just to name a few qualifications, nefore being even considered to critique (let alone rank) any musical artist. Now, to be fair, I don't know Mr. Hunt and his background; but to judge Ustad Shahid Parvez as mediocre, he must be lacking at least at one or moere levels. For me
Finally someone came up with an indisputable ranking system for musicians that, contrary to most such systems, significantly deflates grades. I would love to listen to someone who is high-ranked according to Mr. Hunt. Given that I am enthralled by Shahid Parvez, that has to be an out of the world experience!
First, this is the alap, the introduction to the mood of the raga. So, it is not supposed to jolt, or to move a lot around the Sitar. Second, it is a morning meditative raga, played for medicinal purpose to awaken and balance the mind. Third, it is played in the sentiment of grief after the beloved musician Tansen died. So, it is not supposed to be full of joy. Shahid captures the intended mood, or song, of the raga well.

Wikipedia: ...he is widely recognized as one of the finest living sitar players. Case closed.

This music is profound. I wonder why the man writing the bio chose such pejorative language to describe such brilliance, inspired execution and years of hard work by the artist.

Frankly, If you think Shahid Parvez is middle-class, you have no ear for music. He is a genius. Also, who is anyone to rank artistry as such?

A lot of reviewers want the bio changed from middle ranking. But that's what it is. It is not great. I want a jolt but it never comes. Still, I like listening to him. I think Sharvid will be around for a while and get better and better. At least he doesn't overreach.
IMO, Shahid Parvez is an outstanding sitarist. Gentle and provocative, throughout the expression of his musical gift. But sadly... this is a well bellow middle-ranking biography, written by Ken Hunt. No real offense intended but what was THAT all about? Thankfully , I have ears and a soul to gauge such lovely musicianship by. The rest is just mental static and grossly inaccurate! I will content myself to enjoying the beauty of the sound itself. Kudos to everyone for challenging such BS.
When I heard Parvez for the first time (on Pandora) I had to find out who he was. it was the same way when I first heard Hariprasad Chaurasia. I had to find out and get the music. When I read Parvezs' bio and saw, "middle-ranking", I was surprised. Clearly, he stands out as great. There's a lot of silence in his music~space between the notes. I prefer his playing to Ravi Shankar's.
Now that Nkhil Bannerjee and Vilayat Khan are dead, and Ravi Shankar is past his prime, There is no sitarist alive who is better. If he is middle ranking, than God must be playing sitar now.
What a terrible bio. It would be better to say nothing. Shahid Parvez may have equals, but I do not know of any better living sitarists.

Think twice before posting any nonsense about something you don't understand Mr. Ken Hunt. Ustad Shahid Parvez is one of the best Sitar players in India right now. "Middle ranking" is the worst kind of insult to his abilities and talent.
