The Austin, TX, post-hardcore noise group Scratch Acid laid the groundwork for much of the distorted, grinding alternative punk rockers of the '90s. Formed in 1982, the band originally featured Steve Anderson (vocals), David Wm. Sims (guitar), Brett Bradford (guitar), David Yow (bass), and Rey Washam (drums). Anderson was soon kicked out of the group and the band performed as an instrumental outfit for a short while. Yow moved to vocals, Sims switched to bass, and the band released a self-titled EP in 1984. Two years later, they released the full-length Just Keep Eating and the scathing Berserker EP. Following a long tour that took them through America and Europe, Scratch Acid split in May of 1987. Sims and Washam joined with Steve Albini to form the consciously caustic Rapeman. After Rapeman split, Sims reunited with David Yow to form the Jesus Lizard in 1989, which picked up where Scratch Acid left off. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, Rovi
Toured Dallas in Nov 2011, they kicked a**! Still have it! Though a few eaxtra short breaks trequired to catch their breath. ha! Still.. Awesome. They went off! I saw them back in the 80, being from Dallas and was a fan once I saw them live in Austin. No audio system allows the rare full blast distortion to reach its peak. Must see live to truly appreciate. I was proud to pull out the greatest hits from my old CD collection from the early 90's..Dallas
Awesome... worked with David Yow in Chicago briefly after the Jesus Lizard time frame... fun stuff!

It was raining and lonely back in the room. The CD player had to be borrowed just to listen to the new purchase. Even then the technology was overwhelming and feared. Always just behind and slipping further as time flew by. This purchase was all that mattered at that very moment. Perhaps the most meaningful thing for that week. It should have been a footnote, but was a highlight of sorts.
