A failed ska group turned alternative popsters, Save Ferris was originally formed as a ska-punk band named Los Pantelones. After the group broke up in 1995, guitarist Brian Mashburn and saxophone player Eric Zamora began writing songs, together with former bandmates Bill Uechi (bass) and José Castellaños (trumpeter). The quartet later recruited drummer Mark Harismendy, vocalist Monique Powell and trombone player T-Bone Willy.
The band gigged around the Orange County area for just one month, and recorded the EP Introducing Save Ferris. Invited to compete in a Grammy Showcase of unsigned bands, Save Ferris won local and regional competitions, then flew to New York for the final round; after just one show, a senior executive at Epic Records began talking to the band and signed them, even before they found out the results of the competition. Working with producer Peter Collins, Save Ferris recorded their debut full-length It Means Everything. Thanks to an energetic cover of "Come on Eileen" (by Dexy's Midnight Runners), the album did well on alternative radio. Modfied followed in 1999. ~ John Bush, Rovi
dont read this because it actually works. You will get kissed on the nearest possible friday by the love of your life. tommorrow will be the best day of your life. however if you do not post this comment to at least 3 songs you will die in 2 days. now youve started reading this so dont stop. this is so scary put this on at least 5 songs in at least 143 minutes when if done press f6 and your lovers name will appear on the screen in big letters this is scary cuz it actually works
yes it was a pun on ferris bueller. great band though i think they lost steam when this album came out. Monique seemed to even lose her voice at a lot of shows that in previous shows she had wailed like a banshee. and no this wasnt their first album there was an album before this called introducing save ferris. whoever wrote this need to research a bit more. still love the band and always will
Failed? Pshhhh... Stupid reviewers like the above need to have seen bands like this LIVE before being WAY OFF in their write-ups... This guy propably thinks that Sublime was just another flash-in-the-pan Garage-Punk band from Long Beach...
All members of Save Ferris, except singer Monique Poweell, play in a band called Starpool, I know cause i play trumpet. :) SKA (love the opening line of bio...who writes these? ) Our singer is Alan Meade formerly of Freakdaddy and No Doubt.
i actually saw them in concert several years ago and got to meet them all afterwords. At the end of talking to them, Monique lined us all up (about 10 people) and hugged us all before leaving. such a cool chick!
they musta got their name from "ferris buellers day off"
No s**t Will? Really? I find that a little far fetched, but I guess I'll take you at your word.
I watched Save Ferris perform in the San Fernando Valley back in 1995 at the Cobalt Cafe. They were the first band of the night in a room smaller than a starbucks. There were about 10 people if that in the room around 7pm. The big bands were later that night. Save Ferris was simply an opener. When they started, I was hooked. Monique danced around as if the room was packed. The energy was unbelievable and i have been a devoted fan since. I have their CD that they made themselves from then.
i saw save ferris at a warped tour in 1996...i was 15 and i fell completely in love with this band...ive been listening the the same timeless songs for 11 years now...i'm still in love. i still have this fantasy of them reuniting and taking over the charts....i'll be a die hard fan of save ferris and monique powell forever.
if you like RBF you would definitely enjoy this band, the name of the band comes from the end of Ferris Beullers day off when the girl flips her folder over and ther it is in radial colors "Save Ferris", so yeah these guys are given my official stamp of coolness,,, (V)
