Rush has some of the best lyrics around. They tell a story and they mean something!
This is actually about Geddy's mothers experiences in either Bergen-Belse n or Dachau. In fact, Anne Frank was at Bergen-Belse n , and one of Geddy's parent may have knew her!(Both of his parents were at a camp)

It's about the holocaust and the line about "are we the only human beings left to survive" is from the survivors stories of believing that the whole world has been destroyed. They were so cut off from information that's what they thought.
Tremendous Lyrics!! so poingant.
It is a very good, though depressing song. I think the comments get split on this song because there's multiple albums it appears on.
