Yeah, I've heard that Neil describes himself as a left-libertarian. And the songs based on Rand tend to be based on Anthem (both Anthem and 2112) which is more free spirit themed, as opposed to Atlas Shrugged.

Rush are artistic/social libertarians. Neil has said as much in various interviews. It's not so much political as it is standing up against conformity and the pressures put on them by a money-hungry record industry. That's also what 2112 was all about - Neil's words, not mine. I have really hard time believing these guys represent the current accepted definition of libertarian.
I'm with you Robb! Lirbitarians are a half free, half right sort of people. They think they can make it on their own. They think they have to. These guys have beautiful souls though, even Rand couldn't change that.
