Back in '83 a band called Ground Zero asked if I'd come play keyboards for them. I wasn't really interested, but went to check them out, and Bastille Day is the first song they played, and very well. By the end of the night they pulled off 11 more Rush tunes nearly note-for-note. I was impressed and joined the band. GZ never really got anywhere, but there was serious musicianship going on, and I was on my toes keeping up.
Imagine, this tour was called the "down the tubes tour" after this album critically bombed... Thank god 2112 happened or I wouldn't have been able to see these guys 56 times begininng Sept 17, 1984 at MSG..
Saw them up close and live at the Shorline in Mt. View Ca. Climbed on stage after the show, pretended to be a "breakdown" guy and picked up a rubber dinasour and one of the rocker chick barbie dolls. A sweet, pull!
