We ARE THE PRIESTS OF THE TEMPLES OF SYRINX!!!!!OUR GREAT COMPUTER FILLS THE HALLOWED HALLS!!!!!!! AHHHHHH,,,,1984!!!SUCH A GREAT YEAR I WAS TWELVE SMOKIN GOOD SKUNKWEED N LISTENING TO THIS ALBUMN ALL SUMMER
I had to hitchhike to buy this album when it came out when I was in 10th grade...I'm now 50 and can proudly say this still is the only album I would walk 10 miles to buy...didn't catch them live until their Hemispheres tour. (pssst....I'd hitchhike to buy Hemispheres, too...but don't tell anyone!)
Perfect timing that this came through my Rush rotation today. Reminder of more stress-free "melodic" times when I'd sit in front of my stereo and play my guitar for hours to Rush's music.
This has got to be one of the most influential tracks in storytelling music. Geddy has the sheer capacity to sing so well that he literally sings separate characters in the song, and plays the bass as well as any i can think of, if not better. Alex can change the entire mood of the song in one sweeping masterpiece of a guitar solo, and create any feeling by changing the frets and key he is using. And Neil is the best drummer on the entire planet. Rush is the greatest band that ever lived.
I've been listening to this composition for 20 years+ and I've never gotten tired of it. It is now my #1 favorite rock piece. Love Geddy's singing, particularly on Syrinx. Love the balance of hard and soft, fast and slow, order and chaos, anger and joy, hope and despair, pleasure and disappointment, discovery and destruction. BTW, I hate when stations only play the first two movements. It has to go all or none.
.....awesome tune....RUSH.... Is truly one of the more incredible bands of our times, right up there with YES, Pink Floyd, and Emerson, Lake & Palmer. Although for a lot of us music lovers we probably would have never known that unless we discovered it on our own, as radio stations rarely play any of their really incredible works of art. Tom Sawyer was Litterally the only song the DJ's in the Philadelphia area ever seemed to play, and I was sick of that song in no time. And it wasn't until Dec. o
Hearing 2112 foir the first time ever was a jaw dropping experience for me. I was blown away and could not believe what I was hearing. Powerful. Epic. Sad but beautiful. Loud, Spft, Contrasting, ATTENTION ALL PLANETS I mean whoa. Still holds up and everyone should see this band live. They are so well rehearsed and tight. Peace
Thank you Pandora for the full 21 minutes; 1st time hearing the complete version. My daughter's birthday was 21/12 so this is extra special. Now living in California, I grew up in Rush era in Ontario, Canada. Been a fan for 40 years.

This is EXACTLY what I needed today. The entire cut too! I am on a Rush high right now :)
How can an album run straight through like it did 35 years ago? There will never ever be a band like Rush that masters their skills individually and put them together to sound like a band of 6. they will forever be my hands down favorite band.
Holy s**t, this must be the longest continuous song on pandora. F**king love Rush.

I too stumbled across 2012 as a teenager. No band has aged better, as their music as matured like fine wine. Their current stuff appeals to the adult me as much as their 1970s appealed to the teenage me.
I first heard this music when I was 10 years old. I am forty-ish now and I love them more than ever. The music of Getty, Alex and Neil will forever be my favorite. It touches my soul deeply. The best story tellers and musicians of our time. I have my 11 year old daughter learning how great theOld Peoples music is for all ears!
