Royal Scots Dragoon Guards

Officially, the Royal Scots Dragoon Guard was "Scotland's senior regiment and [the Queen's] only regular cavalry." Musically speaking, the Dragoon Guard's Pipes and Drums division traced its roots back to the trumpet and kettledrum sections of early military guards. It was way back in 1777 that what one could have called a ‘band' made its first appearance, and the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards, at least as it came to be known, formed in 1971. It is the bringing together of the 3rd Carabiniers (the Prince of Wales Dragoon Guards) and the Royal Scots Greys. The Guards take on pipe tunes first came to attention to the pop-music buying public in 1972, with their number one (in the United Kingdom, Ireland, and South Africa) single "Amazing Grace." In 2007, Universal records released a new album by the group, Spirit of the Glen. ~ Chris True

I love the bag pipes. This reminds me of a class I had where my professor, Steve West, did the Scottish accent and told the class a poem by' Robert Burns, "Auld Lang Syne."

One word. Tradition. Epic, days gone by and worthy. Today's age does not appreciate these things, in general. History is amazing, so many stories. The British Empire has many notable and commendable stories, such as the first of all the major world powers (in the timeframe of 1700-1800) to pass, and then enforce anti-slavery laws across the known world. Right is right, and most times the music of The Empire, has been commendable, with a few exceptions, but the people of the Isles, are.

Hats-off and a salute to my ancestor's countrymen-w o m e n . Once played in defiance against English law during the dark ages, Bagpipes continue on in memory and in the spirit of the Scots.

Y'ur so right, yur Holiness, Bishop Wishart of Glasgow; how can one uphold 'n' pay humage fur the killing of tyrants 'n' freein' the masses of coontries like Africa 'n' India of their heathen ways. How dare the folk rejoice in the music of these Ladies from Hell; for not only God, but Queen 'n' Coontry. Damn them all 'n' myself; Sjt. Maj. Robertson of the Queen's Rifles. The sound of the pipes make me proud of the service 'n' proud of those of the same ilk.

I am a Italian American who was blessed to be married to a Irishman for almost 28yrs, and we honored him with Amazing Grace by another fellow Irishman, and it was timed perfectly with our son a Naval officer handing me the American flag .. How could any of us hold our tears ... My beloved will always be in my mind when I here the pipes play... I look forward to the time I can lay him to rest in Ireland & the highlands of Scotland

I just want to say, being American/ Greek, that it doesn't matter where you are from. Beautiful music can come in many different styles. This album made me change my perspective about music. Most of this music has been around longer than pop or rap, and doesn't deserve to die away. It's people who don't use their last skip on these albums that carry on a legacy. I just want to say thank you for listening fellow music lovers.
