Noticing the start of the crazed black metal scene in the Scandinavian region, the Tolis brothers, Sakis (vocals/guitar) and Themis (drums), wanted to begin their own spectacle in their hometown of Athens, Greece. Hence, Rotting Christ were born in 1987 with the addition of Kostas Vassilakopoulos on second guitar and bassist Andreas Lagios. However, the nationwide attention as a second-generation black metal act didn't start until the release of their 1991 EP, Passage to Arcturo. After adding a keyboard player to their lineup (George, just George) and hooking up with France's Osmose Records, their first full-length, Thy Mighty Contract, was released in 1993, followed by Non Serviam two years later. Clearly showing off their Venom and Celtic Frost influences with those two releases, Rotting Christ established themselves as one of the premier European underground metal acts. After recording 1996's Triarchy of the Lost Lovers, a deal was secured with Century Media Records, meaning that they where finally getting distribution on both sides of the North Atlantic. Following the 1997 release of the melancholy, keyboard-driven A Dead Poem, their sixth release, Sleep of the Angels, was released two years later. Khronos arrived two years after that. ~ Mike DaRonco, Rovi
Saw them last year at Brick by Brick in San Diego. Not into the typical Satan Metal which RC isn't. Love that they've been leaning towards Ancient Greek Mythos (Dodecatheism) in their music the past few records! Hope they come back to SoCal soon.
the country may be rotting but not this incredible band. anyway, i suspect its another corrupt goverment along with the banking system of greece that screwed up that beautiful country.greek people are great.goverments suck.greece has rotting christ,so therefore greece rules. !
i'm a greek phreak(except for college fraternities,which are nazi factories)greek yogurt,melina mecouri,jules dassain,diamandala galas,pictures of the blue sea and of course ROTTING CHRIST !

I love Emperor and Old Man's Child. Dimmu Borgir is EPIC as far as black metal goes. I'll check out the other three sometime.

I'm sorry but this is probably the 2,000th mediocre black metal band I've heard. They all have generic gimmicky names. I guess good black metal is really hard to find...Oh yeah, on a side note; is it just me or do alot of black metal guitarists sound as though they can't tune their guitars?
kkovacs unit k2, people like you shouldn't be allowed to breathe, anyone held up by the name of this most excellent group should just stay in sunday school and never EVER leave. May Satan set the hordes upon your home.
This band rules. On every album they've displayed very different sounds. And, ironically, Pandora has only their best albums here it would seem and none of their mid era stuff. I don't like their mid era stuff at all, sorry. Got all gothic-laced and started being like cof or other gay symphonic crap. Their old and new stuff kicks a**, though.
Ok, kkovacs unit k2, that's fine. Don't listen to this. Good. Don;t listen to anything like this. Just keep listening to your Deehmoo Burger and Bullet 4 Valentines or w/e. No one wants you listening to this or any other good music with a taste like that anyways.
eww the name sounds like something i wouldnt want to listen to.
ive never heard them before but maybe someday i will.
im NOT saying that they suck but i dont like the name. i like the genre so ill probably give this a go
