The younger brother of Hubert Laws, Ronnie Laws has a nice soulful sound on tenor, but has never seriously pursued playing jazz. Throughout his career, which includes early-'70s gigs with Quincy Jones, his brother, Ramsey Lewis, and Earth, Wind & Fire, Laws has essentially been an R&B player. He has led his own albums since 1975, but recorded very little of interest to the jazz world, although he is often listed on Billboard's contemporary jazz chart. ~ Scott Yanow, Rovi
I've always love your music! Thanks pandora for giving me the opportunity to hear more of Ronnie 's music

Ronnie is one of those very few tenor players whose sound immediately AFFECTS me emotionally (the other two I can think of off the top of my head are Dexter Gordon and Wayne Shorter). There's this soulful plaintiveness in the tone that forces me to listen to every nuance. I never get tired of listening to Pressure Sensitive!
I enjoyed Ronnie Laws at the Detroit Paradise Valley Music Festival one of the best nights with his music....truly enjoyed the first time seeing him in concert...Wow! It was ALL THAT!

Just looking at his album covers brings back so many good memories....I love his music. I'm fan of the entire Laws family, so talented!
I began listening to jazz because of Ronnie Laws. I was coming in the house from school on day, back in the mid 70's and my mother was watching Merv Griffin, I think, and Ronnie Laws was playing the sax as a guest on the show.... I fell in love with jazz and the saxophone at that time and never turned back.... Thanks Mr. Laws, you are one of the best!!!
One person's opinion. Music like all forms of art generates intensely personal feelings. Expressing those feelings is merely an expression of that personla perspective and accordingly can never be termed right or wrong. I say listen to the music and pass the wine...
Love his music doesn't matter how long he's been in the business to me but just that he puts out the best sounds ever. My other idol George Benson ..all my respect to these 2 cats..love em and brings back great memories ...good times indeed.
Love his music. He is also a great vocalist. One of the few artist that play an insturment and also have a great voice . George Benson is the other. Dr. J

TALENTED FAMILY AGREE W/COMMENT KC DO U'RE RESEARCH ON BIOS. I'VE FOLLEWED I DIFFER KCFROMKC
Ronnie, is a great musician, the whole laws family is musically inclined. I played with Ronnies younger sister Charlotte, she could really sing and intertain an audience. she is greatly missed.( Joseph Rachal-Latin Percussions and backup vocals.)
Ronnie Laws is truly a wonderful artist, no one can claim otherwise unless you were on the moon and never really listened to his music, his music can brighten up the worst shade of Gray day! His family has been in the business since the sixties, please do better real time research before writing your future bios on artists because some people may read your bio and never listen to another piece of work by the artist.
Not trynna' hear a casual dismissal of Ronnie Laws as being a lightweight. The man was what I call rare groove. A sound found at the intersection of jazz, funk, and r&b.It was / is good stuff...and it freshened jazz for a new generation.
Thanks, Pandora. There are so many sax player to be recognized. Mr. Laws was there with R&B/Jazz in my fast and furious years. Alto was my pleasure then but now @ 62 I'm playing Tenor too. Ronnie you will be imitated over and over. Thanks for the footprints Ronnie.
From my point of view, there are various variations of jazz, and I label Ronnie's style as R&B Jazz. I greatly love and enjoy fusion jazz and straight ahead modern jazz, but I've been a Ronnie Laws junkie since 1975. We can be friends and strangers...
Ronnie Laws is in a class of his own from way back when i was in high school, and who influenced me to play Tenor Sax.

Ronnie Laws is in a class by himself. He truly peaked with Friends & Strangers, Flame, Every Generation. After the latter, he was hit and miss. Ronnie is still awesome live, if you ever have a chance to see him peform live, do it. Ronnie was a pioneer of a totally different sound, often copied never duplicated. Even by Ronnie himself. I agree the writer of his Pandora bio knows little to nothing of Ronnie's substance. Wayne Henderson and later, Larry Dunn, got the best out of him.
i like the first friends and strangers song but i thought that the other remake was even better becuase of its sound is improved and ronnie really makes it sound good ! i just cant remember which cd that was though ? in the late 80s or early 90s im not sure i used to hear that song on a station in portland oregon in starting in 1994 !
dyoung7895 is absolutely right. Ronnie Laws was playing "Smooth Jazz" before that label had been placed on that style. Looking Back on "Saturday Evening", wow, among many others. Ronnie's tone is almost like, hauntingly-pleasurable, the way it penetrates your musical receptors. Also, enjoyed Hubert and Debbie, much!
I am amazed that I live in the city were Ronnie Laws and his family grew up in and I sometimes hear him speaking on local radio stations and I am just Greatful to know that the music that inspired me in the 70's came from a family as Great as the LAWS.

Ronnie Laws' music has such great memories to it for me! I was coming into my own when I started listening to him in the 70's. I love all the music by the whole family. I probably still have the 8 track, the album, the cassette, and the cd here.
