Russian composer Rodion Shchedrin (born 1932) is one of the most prominent figures in Soviet and post-Soviet music to follow Dmitri Shostakovich. A graduate of the Moscow Conservatory, Shchedrin became best known for his ballets, some written for his wife ballerina Maya Plisetskaya, including one that produced his most famous work, Carmen Suite (1967). Shchedrin is also renowned for his concerto subtitled "Naughty Limericks," his three symphonies, piano concertos and many other pieces. Shchedrin's works range from very seriously studied polyphony, such as his Polyphonic Notebook for piano (1970) to the use of avant-garde techniques, sometimes featuring humorous clashes of stylistic approaches. ~ Uncle Dave Lewis , Rovi
