Drawn together by a shared love of metal and prog rock, Riverside were founded in 2001 in Warsaw, Poland, by Mariusz Duda (vocals, bass, guitar), Piotr Grudzinski (guitar), Piotr Kozieradzki (drums), and Jacek Melnicki (keyboards). The quartet members intended to use their backgrounds in metal to explore new territory in prog rock along the lines of Dream Theater and Tool, creating spacious and experimental music with a metal edge. Even before their first record was finished, Riverside began to experience creative differences, with Melnicki (who was later replaced by current keyboard player Michal Lapaj) splitting from the group to pursue his own studio projects in 2003. Later that year, the band issued its full-length debut, Out of Myself, which was released the following year in the U.S. on Laser's Edge. After the success of their first record, the bandmembers got back to work on new material. In 2005 they released the EP Voices in My Head, gaining the attention of InsideOut, which released their second album, Second Life Syndrome, later that year. In 2007, after a European tour in support of Dream Theater, the group released Rapid Eye Movement. In 2009 they put out another studio record, Anno Domini High Definition (on Mystic Productions), which quickly became the best-selling record in Poland. ~ Gregory Heaney, Rovi
I am really really enjoying this bands musicianship! Riverside has a real melodic ton almost an OPETH feel to their style of playing. Great Stuff here and I hope that this band get alot more PR with the WORLD!
Time to mellow out damn Riverside is awesome for any mood but for unwinding this s**t is euphoric. .

First time hearing this band, pretty awesome! Prog lover through and through. However, the curtain falls? Little similar to opeth's the drapery falls eh? Not a big deal, they're totally different sounding- I'll check out more soon!
Awesome band. Pandora is a little behind on the discography though - Missing Rapid Eye Movement and Anno Domini High Definition. Also, their new CD comes out in January.
@jeffkelly59 Looking for a new fix? Try some Porcupine Tree if you haven't already. A good first CD to introduce yourself to the group would be Fear of a Blank Planet. If you decide you like them, Steven Wilson, the lead singer/guitarist/writer/producer/mixer has his own wonderful solo work, and he'll be here in DFW at the House of Blues on 4/9/12.
I was introduced to Riverside through a If you like this, you'll like this recommendation from listening to Porcupine Tree. In my opinion, if you like Riverside, you will LOVE Porcupine Tree.
I got everything they've released and I haven't grown tired of it. Found them through Prog Rock magazine a few years ago. Had to order ADHD from England; couldn't get it in the states. PLEASE COME TO DALLAS!!!
This band is absolutely fantastic. That's for introducing them to me Pandora. The thing that really bothers me is that if not for Pandora, I would have never heard this band in the good ole USA. Their music is sooooo much better than the cr.. the local radio stations try to shove down our throats!
This band is becoming an obsession with me -- they're incredible. The DVD is in my player (since I got it) and I put it on at least once a week -- when I'm not running thru their catalog on my iPod. Did I mention obsession?
riverside.... one of the best bands to come around in many years .... just outstanding.... stay together , keep moving foward , keep working at your craft
add: Had to buy ADHD w/ DVD from a UK reseller. Couldn't find it in the U.S. in DFW!!! I even tried to order it and they couldn't get it in! Then, I moved out of state b4 it arrived. SUCK! But, I had a great postman who held onto it and forwarded it to me once my forwarding address was available. It was worth the stress and wait!!!
I've been into this band for years and can't stop listening. The sonic sounds just keep you wanting more. For me, after years of Pink Floyd addiction, I needed a new fix. Riverside did this for me. I really enjoyed ADHD's heavy bass and drum emphasis, along with emphasis on keyboards. Get all their albums. You won't be disappointed!

I can get enough of prog rock, it fills up my head and like a good steak, I just want more!!
First time listening to Riverside, awesome!!

new album came out a few months ago..awesome as well!
One of the best new heavy prog-rock bands in years. First saw them at NEARfest a few years ago, and was blown away. Immediately bought their first two albums. Am elated to have the chance to see them state-side again this summer for NEARfest... Row E!!!!! :-) Happy camper here
I'm very glad I discovered these guys through my PT station. They have such a unique sound and cool ambiance. The singers voice sort of reminds me a little of "Silent Lucidity" era Queensryche vocals and the rhythmic guitar sections make me think on old Camel songs and their crazy rhythmic meanderings.
FYI all prog lovers, I highly recommend Eidolon. It's more on the Speed Metal side but their latest offerings are defenitely on the Prog / Riverside of things. Specially the Album Nightmare World on Metal Blade.
I second the comments below, creating my PT station was the best decision I've ever made with respect to Pandora. Riverside is my favorite discovery since... well... Porcupine Tree. I just bought Second Life Syndrome and it's plain to see that they're absolutely phenomenal musicians and songwriters.
I echo many on here; had not heard of Riverside until Pandora came along with my Porcupine Tree station. They have a great sound and, if you buy the CD's, you can really hear them beginning to mature. Would love to see them live. . .
Adding another voice to the choir - my Porcupine Tree station exposed this band to me.. Now I'm hooked on them along with Porcupine, Opeth, Ayeron, Perfect Circle, and all those others that dare drift the hazy border of art & metal rock.
I am digging this band on my Porcupine Tree radio station. In fact, I have never heard of Riverside before until I created this station. It is so nice knowing that good music is not lost as I previously thought. I could listen to this stuff for days and not get tired of it.
I'm with dchuang. No speed metal here. Nice non-commercial pieces that and wonderful lyrics. Great blend of talent and abilities. Thanks to porcupine Tree for exposing this band to me.
