If you really want to know: "La Bamba" is an old Mexican song from Vera Cruz & the Yucatan, originally done in 6/8 or 3/4 time because it has African roots. Specifically, it was inspired by west Africans from Mali. The lyrics say "To dance the Bamba dance, you need a little gracefulness..." What it really means is dancing like a BAMBARA--the people of Mali who were brought to the Yucatan to work in the mines.
