Jazz bassist Richard Bona was born and raised in the West African nation of Cameroon, going on to session dates with Joe Zawinul, Regina Carter, and Bob James as well as a two-year stint as musical director for the great Harry Belafonte. He made his debut as a headliner in 1999 with Scenes from My Life, and two years later Reverence came out. In 2003, Bona made his Verve debut with Munia: The Tale, which explored the territories of rock and jazz while keeping his West African influences, and 2005's Toto Bona Lokua was a joint effort with Lokua Kanza (from the Congo) and Gerald Toto (from Martinique). In 2006, Tiki, featuring guest artists like John Legend and Djavan, was released. ~ Jason Ankeny, Rovi
... It's not just the music, vocals (voices) are so integrated to the ritmic poetry that there are no different sounds just a whole sound, so profound searching into your mind and spirit. Great interpretatios.
Kalabancoro. This is really beautiful music. What I'd like to know is if anyone can take the Africani music like this and interpret it to English with the same kind of musical background and background vocals? Because I think this music would be a hit here if we interpret it to English. This makes the second Africani song I heard on here that I thought was absolutely beautiful. What happened to this guy? He needs to make more music.
Music within music, how musical can one get! Keep playing & singing, Bona!!!

What an eclectic mix of rhythm, folk, Africab-Cuban-American music. A truly diverse artist. I like all that I've heard so far...and anxiously await more.

Great musician and voice, loved him with Pat Metheny in 2002 and at Montreal Jazz Festival in 2004, such a depth of style and voice.

Richard Bona tells true stories about the Douala culture and brings us in the days when, in cameroon we will seat by the camp fire and tell stories . He gives me joy when i listen to his music. I love the son call (souninga)
I have all of Richard Bona's album's - just wish to hear more. What a wonderful blend of cultures - I feel at home - and transported - when I hear his music.
