The Chicago, IL-based Rhymefest (born Che Smith) first gained national attention as the co-songwriter of Kanye West's Grammy-winning "Jesus Walks." His association with West actually went back several years prior; the MC's independently released Raw Dawg, issued in 2001, was produced entirely by a pre-fame West. Later signed to Mark Ronson's J-distributed Allido label, Rhymefest put together Blue Collar for a March 2006 release date. Its first single, "Brand New," also featured production work from West, as well as extensive assistance from No I.D. (Common, G-Unit). Nearly four years later, after inking a new deal with the dN|Be label, Rhymefest issued his EMI-distributed follow-up, El Che. The album featured guest contributions from Phonte, Darien Brockington, and Saigon. ~ Andy Kellman, Rovi

rhymefest is from Indianapolis, IN....not chicago! the chi can have him tho because hes not hot. I loved brand new but i just wish people would quit frontin about the city that youre from like that changes the quality of your music somehow
Jc is right citizen cope did that song on the clarence greenwood recordings, dracun3 listen to music other than rap, it will make you more intelligent.
Chicago has pound for pound some of the best lyricists to ever touch a mic...From the early days of Twista, Common, Crucial Conflict,Do or Die, PyschoDrama and the Brat to Kanye, Lupe and now cats like Rhymefest, the Chi aint lacking in capable emcees with lyrics...
This is a GREAT album. If you don't already have it. Get it. Trust me you won't be disappointed. The only blemish I can think of is his version of a club song "Put it on my stick" (or something like that) and "Chica-Gorilllaz". Other than that...it's perfect. "Bullet" should have gotten a grammy.
