The side project of guitarists Tomi Ullgren (Thy Serpent) and Jarno Salovaara (Shape of Despair), Finland's Rapture also features singer Petri Eskelinen, bassist Jani Ohman, drummer Samu Ruotsalainen, and keyboard player Sami Karttunen. Deriving their sound from the doleful doom/death metal style made popular by middle-era Paradise Lost, Anathema, as well as post-Gothenburg sound exponents like Katatonia, the band's only L.P., the pessimist masterpiece Futile, was recorded in 1999. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia, Rovi
"Songs for the Withering" is an outstanding album, especially if you are searching for metal you can actually listen to during dinner. Nice mix of melody with a hard edge. Got it used on ebay for almost nothing. Try the Austrailian equivalent Karnivool's album "Themata." Also outstanding, and something you can break your doubting friends in to with before you break out the Hatebreed and let them know what life is really about.
First time listen today. I am a big fan of opeth, crowbar and any mix thereof. I have a station of them now, but it produced soilwork (thumbs down) and more opeth (thumbs up but i already have it all)
