like Bobby McFerrin's "Don't Worry, Be Happy", this is the sum total of what many people know of Newman's music. aside from having written gems like "Political Science", "Baltimore", "Marie" and, of course, his work on tons of film scores (not to mention the priceless Monk theme song), there is a marvelous flexibility in his voice that works as well with wry observation as it does aching sadness or wicked playfulness.
