One of the most readily identifiable voices of any contemporary female vocalist, Randy Crawford's initial recognition came from her fiery vocal on "Street Life," a 1979 song matching her with the Crusaders that was included on the soundtrack for Burt Reynolds' film Sharky's Machine. Crawford was born in Macon, Georgia, and grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio; she worked in clubs as a teen, accompanied by her father. Crawford was lead vocalist in a group that included bassist Bootsy Collins before touring as George Benson's opening act in 1972. Cannonball Adderley invited her to sing on his LP Big Man. Crawford recorded "Don't Get Caught in Love's Triangle," a song produced by Johnny Bristol, during a short stay on the label. She soon moved to Warner Bros., and after "Street Life," recorded and toured Europe with the Crusaders. Crawford was tabbed Most Outstanding Performer at the 1980 Tokyo Music Festival. She remained with Warner Bros. through the '80s and early '90s, during which time she developed a strong following in Europe and Britain. In the new millennium, Crawford has remained quite active, often re-teaming with Crusaders keyboardist Joe Sample for such albums as 2006's Feeling Good, 2008's No Regrets, and 2012's concert album Live. ~ Ron Wynn, Rovi
I would love to hear her again live, I came to Norfolk, VA from Texas in 1991 just to hear her on stage. I heard her for the 1st time in 1984 and have never stopped listening to her sultry voice. Love her, where is she now???
This commentary doesn't mention Rio de Janeiro Blue and Secret Combination not to mention One Day I'll Fly Away. I will carry my love for Randy Crawford through this life and into all those ahead.
Only Anita Baker has a more distinctive voice than Randy.
Randall, FIRE/ICE, vwilson1031, and Tamika all got it right.
A true talent that should have been better appreciated by we the
true listeners of honest and heart felt rythyms here in the states.
If any one knows of her possibly doing a live performance somewhere
in the U.S. any time in the future, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE POST THE INFO.
RESPECTFULLY:
Randy always has had "It" -- A beautiful, distinct, consistent sound -- I was her neighbor and have been following her forever, beginning with her performances in the high school variety shows and local clubs in Cincinnati. I can't understand why she never made it "real big" --- Maybe she will someday concentrate on being an outstanding Jazz Vocalist ...
I just love "Street Life". It brings me back to my youth.

My nephew from Seattle called me about a song I played in the 90's called Sailor Moon but could not recall the artist. He had the words but the title was wrong. I realize he was talking about Cajun Moon by Randy Crawford! He is ecstatic that I remember. Ms Crawford as she is now has that special voice you cannot forget. What a gift!
HER VOICE,WORDS AND MUSIC MAKE MY SOUL VIBRATE WITH NEW LIFE.

I accidently happened upon Randy Crawford. I thought she was a new artist. She has a fantastic moving voice. I also assumed she was caucasian. In my searching, I found that she had 55 fans. I was flabbergasted at just 55 because this lady has a VOICE that had a tendency to make me search on the internet to see what I could find out about her.
