Tucson-based multi-instrumentalist R. Carlos Nakai is a Native-American musician and cultural anthropologist of Navajo-Ute descent. Though he received classical training on the trumpet, his numerous recordings consist primarily of resonant solo performances of Native-American flute improvisations with a judicious use of synthesizers, chanting, and nature sounds. Nakai only occasionally features arrangements of traditional melodies from various tribes; instead, he is primarily concerned with creating original compositions that capture the essence of his heritage in highly personalized ways. In addition to his solo recordings, Nakai has had the opportunity to create new avenues of expression for the Native American flute through collaborations with various artists over the years, including the ethnic jazz band Jackalope, keyboardist Peter Kater, contemporary classical composer James DeMars, and multi-instrumentalist William Eaton. ~ Linda Kohanov, Rovi

Love This Stuff ! It is beautiful and healing and R. Carlos Nakai chose to bless us all by putting his music out there for everyone wether we share his heritage or not. We are all still quite human. Deep Thanks Mr. Nakai
This music simply lifted my soul to a higher plane. There is something magical about the tune which resonates deep inside. I sense a calling for a deeper search within myself for something I cannot describe. Keep the music flowing..wonderful stuff.

Richard....you know you are drawn to this music and don't know why. Try being still and quiet. Just fully be where you are. Give your critical spirit a rest. It only weakens you. Look for what is right......

Thank you for lifting me today. Such soothing sounds.......bless you my brother. Forgive the critics of the world. They have much to learn of gratitude. Play on....for it is your gift to those who 'see'. Play on as long as you have breath. I shall be listening. Play on........thank you.....
I love your music, do you ever think you might come to Southern Oregon to perform maybe at the Britt in Jacksonville, Oregon or our county fair in Central Point, Oregon.
Richard, you will probably never read this but it needs to be written anyway. He chose a picture of himself that represents his culture and his philosophy of living. YOU did that as well when you chose the picture you have on your profile. We all make choices and we all make decisions. You're missing out with your decision.

I have been listening to R. Carlos Nakai for almost 30 years and play his music more than any other artist during my sessions with clients. A high point was attending a live concert in Raleigh maybe a dozen years ago. He has more feeling in his work than any other Native American artist I know. Rock on, sir.
I had my own Radio show in Western Maryland and an NPR station and I have been supporting his music since 1993 when I started my show. I walked across the country for Native American rights. Someone said that the pictures of him on the albums are offensive and exploitive. As a proud Native American, Carlos Nakai is proud and makes his own choice to put his picture on the albums. Native American people are not puppets. They are not hidden as the white man chooses them to be. New Age Music h
Fusion has a purpose throughout history. I find this music soothing and inspirational. Hats off to Carlos Nakai....
