Prong

Rising out of the expansive early '90s thrash metal landscape, New York's Prong carved a niche all their own with their minimalist urban take on the genre. After years working as a soundman at New York's CBGB's Tommy Victor (vocals/guitars) drafted doorman Mike Kirkland (bass) and ex-Swans drummer Ted Parsons to form Prong in the mid 80s. The trio's early independent releases -- Primitive Origins and Force Fed -- were extremely raw and betrayed their hardcore roots. By the time the group signed with Epic for 1990's Beg to Differ though, Victor and company had transformed into a highly-technical thrash metal outfit, shelling out clinical staccato riffs and start-stop rhythms peppered with subtle melodies and occasional bursts of speed. The album's title track was a minor hit, helping to put the band on the map once it received regular exposure on MTV's Headbanger's Ball.

Ex-Flotsam and Jetsam bassist Troy Gregory replaced Kirkland for 1991's Prove You Wrong -- which featured another strong single in "Unconditional" -- but was essentially a creative holding pattern and lost some of the band's momentum. Gregory was soon ousted and supplanted by two ex-Killing Joke and Murder Inc. members in bassist Paul Raven and keyboard player John Bechdel for 1994's Cleansing. Containing arguably their best work, the album saw a slight change of direction towards a more industrial sound, with Victor's precise riffing making way for a greater sense of groove and melody. It did little to increase the group's commercial appeal, however. Prong would disband following 1996's less inspired Rude Awakening. Parsons then went on to join British industrialists Godflesh while Victor toured with goth-punks Danzig, but rumors persist of an eventual Prong reunion. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia, Rovi

An underrated & under appreciated metal band that was ahead of the curve in the 80's. If only they would've caught on!
Prove you wrong should be added it was a great album
pharris1466
Idiot haters, too young to know Prong was so far ahead of their time it is not funny, riff's to rival metalica while they were still stringing thier guitars and learning cords... get the facts right!
These f**kers really sux

Yeah missing Prove You Wrong in Discography. Get it on there some kick a** tunes on that album
Too mellow for me 20 years ago, but kinda digging the simplicity of it nowadays.
Always though this song was a little different than Demon Hunter's normal stuff, now I know why XD
M.10.maybe chaos a.d. but far beyond driven? Do your homework child.
Tommy victor rips.
Had the best breaks in their songs.. still jamming them 23 years later!!!
Prong is some cool beans.
I remember them opening for Ozzy. They were pissed after that show, everyone was there for Ozzy!

Snap your fingers snap your neck!!!!!!!
killer sh*t. Huge influence on me. Prong was/is a key influence in what we hear today. Cleansing / Chaos AD / Far Beyond Driven ironically laid the path for the NU metal sound, even though none of those bands ever went down the path. Rock ON MuthaFuggas!
TeeVee n me were pounding Metaxa in Bali & we did th plus and minus thing and hammered out the birth of Carved. Hooah, Tommy~~

never say never

where the hell is prove you wrong!!!!!!! ! !
Tommy did the sound for us (PSYCHO) when we played at CBGB's in the mid 80's...and we became friends !!! I released a demo version of one of their tunes ,from their first album, on my compilation album REVENGE OF THE KAMAKAZI STEGOSAURUS FROM OUTER SPACE.... thems the good ol' days for sure !!!!
I really love this band. Tommy's lyrics are very powerful and to the point, love that about them. I can just turn this up as loud as I can and enjoy.
BTW Victor is one of my biggest guitar influences, along with Dimebag (RIP) Those guys get it; it's all chunk and squeal!
RIP Raven. He really made the band click. Kirkland was forgettable, and Gregory was really, really weird LOL.
The artist variety, or lack thereof, on the Prong station is a joke... Also, why is Prove You Wrong not even offered?
Love this song!!!
Tommy Victor's guitar work for Ministry and Danzig is the s**t
cleansing and rude awakening are my favorite albums of theirs. Power of the damager is quite good too.
I agree. As they progressed through the years, I feel they lost the "IT" that made them unique and interesting. Beg to Differ; my fave.
So many groove-, nu-, whatever-met a l bands should be paying royalties to Tommy Victor.
yup. well done boys.
ruthtinsaye
snap your finger snap your mother-f**ki n neck, what do you know, prong rocks!
Love Cleansing & Rude Awakening. Great albums.
When this band was good, they were really good. When they were bad they were excrutiating l y boring. Definitely only 1-2 good songs on each release. The rest was filler. A bit too compressed too. It took away from the impact.
You have to ask yourself one question, "Is it wrong to Prong?"
Prong is a tight a** band. Snap your figure, snap your neck was there most killer song i have ever heard
That would be a terrible show. The Melvins are pretty good, but Helmet,Prong , and ESPECIALLY Chevelle?!? No thanks. What are you even thinking..
aaron_coutur e
How good would a show be with these guys, Helmet, Chevelle and the Melvins be? Discuss! Don't diss the melvins....S t o n e r Witch is a masterpiece!
