I love almost anything with a guitar, bass & drums. I am not too big on techno, but I do enjoy Massive Attack & down tempo music.
My preference is rock. I prefer faster rock, but not necessarily anything overly aggressive. Emo & Screamo are s**t. That genre doesn't even soound like the bands that started it (i.e. Fugazi, Sunny Day, etc.)
I digress. I love some of the bigger bands like Tool, Incubus, Radiohead, Deftones, and Foo Fighters, but I also love going to the small dive bars in Deep Ellum to hear "what's next."
I love the older singers and song writers as well. Bob Dylan, Billy Joel, Steve Miller, Johnny Cash, Tom Petty, and many others.
I hate Dave Matthews. I have been in several arguments over this and actually had people try to fight me over this statement. I completely understand he and his band a very talented musicians, but it's not for me.
I also don't like the Beatles. They are okay, but very over rated. People say there wouldn't be rock & roll without them, but that is a fallacy. Someone else, somewhere would have found what is, rock & roll.
I love Led Zeppelin. True kings.
I loved, at one time, Weezer. First 3 albums were great and very easy to listen to. The first two were obviously the best. I just don't get their sound now or their direction. But, I will not say Matt Sharp made the band.
Currently, and for the past few years, I have really been into Bayside. They are a great 4 piece from Long Island, NY. They have a great sound that is only theirs and have good tempo. They are fast, fresh and young.
Alkaline Trio is a main stay in my musical diet. From Goddamnit to Agony & Irony, they are one of a kind. I also say this being a Christian. I have seen them about 7 times and have never been disappointed. July 22, I will see them again and expect the same. Matt, Dan & Derek bring it every time they are on stage. You also never know when they may sneak someone else up on stage to rock with.
