I'm an older educator/performer who's spent most of my life teaching at the university level, and playing trumpet in symphony orchestras, brass groups, churches, Broadway shows, big bands, and combos of all sorts. My junior year was spent studying at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, I played three years with The U.S. Army Band in D.C. Advanced degrees were earned from Catholic University and the University of Miami.
I've had the good fortune to work under conductors such as Szell and von Karajan; have played in Carnegie and Town Halls in NYC; toured for almost a year with the Si Zentner Band in the mid-sixties; and have backed such artists as Pavorotti, Sinatra and Bennett, Ray Charles, James Brown, Stevie Wonder, the Four Tops, Temptations, Spinners, and a myriad of other diverse groups.
I love musicians as diverse as Mahler and Miles, and comfortably straddle the virtual 'fence' that for years separated legitimate musicians and jazz artists.
Bach rocks!, Ravel, Debussy and other Impressionists form a special interest area, but Duke Ellington, Charles Mingus, and Gil Evans occupy no-less important areas of my aging mind.
